JG M4 issues

Hey all I've recently got an JG M4 thats not working right. I got it knowing wasnt working as a learning tool. Now having no experience diagnosing issues I've come to you all to ask a for some advice.
-The issues selector switch just spins 360.
-The gun has no safe and no auto, only semi. gun will still fire when selector is set to safe.
-When it does fire it's very slow to respond and fire. Its almost like its having to try real hard to fire
-I have removed the mechbox from the gun and wow does it stink. I dont know if gun lube should smell like hot wires and melty plastic ( I know technical description but it's hard to describe)

So any idea as to were I should start? or what could be wrong? Any help would be awesome and appreciated.

Easiest way is to throw away that gearbox and buy a new one. Or if you're using it as a Guinea pig to learn the workings, open up the gearbox and inspect each part and replace anything that's broken. But it does sound like you got a BIG pos.

... your selector switch needs to be replaced
... your safety cover assembly needs to be replaced
... possible tappet plate issues
... possible cut off lever issues
... possible switch assembly issues

with a "hot wires and melty plastic" smell - it usually means something got hot at one point... take it to a gun doc if you're not comfortable diagnosing it yourself... Frank from Velocityarms.ca sells drop in boxes, maybe that's an option?

Good luck..
