Over hop, under hop, and no hop at all...

Hello everyone... I really hate posting on this section of the forum... Like all who does, I need your help.

As some of you may know, I run a L96. Since the fall season I haven't had much time to play until last weekend. I was really excited until I got to the field and fire my gun. Here is what is happening that really disappoint me.

Load the mag full of .4 bbs. PDI hop up adjustment screw fully out(full hop on) with firefly hard rubber running at 450FPS with .2 bbs.

23, mid-nearly no hop
24, mid-nearly no hop


WHAT'S GOING ON?!

My first conclusion was: when I load my mags too full the bb is pushing onto
the cylinder which then prevent full contact with the hop up unit which cause lost of air seal. So I started bumping 1-2 bbs out after mag is fully loaded, but result is the same!...

My next guess is that the hop up spring that holds the lever down isn't strong isn't or isn't applying proper/even pressure per shot... So I'm thinking of modifying it so the spring is under the lever and the screw is on the outer barrel. So instead of the spring holding the hop, it's the screws which will ensure that I'll get even hop every time. I just don't want to do this mod and find out it's something stupid...

I'm so disappointed with it now... After nearly $700 worth of upgrade parts and this is what happens?...

Any help would be greatly thanked.

PS: everything is like new. Got all my parts in a 2-3 month window. This is my first time fielding the L96 and firing beyond 40 feet(basement).

Good frickin question, toggling between full hop up and no hop up............... I can't think of anything at this point. When you say full and no, what distances are you talking about, and what are the BBs doing at those distances? I know it's obvious from the full and none, but you are using much heavier rounds than any of us actually use, so I'm curious to see if by no hop up you mean they drop at 150ft, or full you are saying they overhop (not likely) or something. With my rifle and full hop up (400fps and have a Guarder clear rubber), 0.36g drop at about the 150ft range, but with elevation I can get them past 230ft. They never overhop though.

Ugg... I made a mistake...

I change the shot number. It's form no hop to full hop then to nearly mid hop.

I can't tell you where it drops but from my scope(mil-dot) shooting at my buddy's' back(aim at his center core/mid back) at roughly 150feet, here's what I see.

I don't see the no hop hitting him, but he said he seen the grass move just right beside him.
The fully hop can hit his helm nearly 3/5 shot(wind) and is about 5 dots above cross-hair
The nearly no more is hitting just above his mid back which is 2-3 dots above cross-hair.

I don't have .36 bbs, but I will have them before the weekend. I do have .3 though if there's any test I can perform to give better detail the my problem.

Go with the 0.30g to test and see what is actually going on, they are lighter and will actually show you overhop if there is any. Question: do you wash your BBs to get the oil off them?

i'm having an issue with my stock l96 where the hop-up is consistently laser-accurate (tuned for .3) even when i swap to a lighter weight.. i've tried .28 and .2 lol

Important thing to do. Every time you get a new bag of bb's lay them down on a towel and spray them with water. Once water'd rub them clean with another towel.

No, I never thought it would effect hop, only leave stain on the inner barrel. I guess I should give that a try.

Other than that, you wouldn't think filling the mags too full would affect the cylinder head? Maybe the bb is pushing against the neck and inturn giving a little lift on the cylinder head when it's making contact with the hop up?

I actually soak in warm water with a bit of dishsoap, then let dry for a few days. Totally gets rid of every trace of oil.
