Magpul PTS vs Magpul CTR
So im looking for a RS black magpul CTR stock and the cheapest seems to be IPSCGM.. They have these 2:
1. Magpul PTS CTR Stock (Black) $75.00 http://www.ipscgm.com/index.php?main...oducts_id=1115 2. Magpul PTS MOE Stock (Black) $49.99 http://www.ipscgm.com/index.php?main...oducts_id=1293 Based on my experience, there is only the PTS MOE (has no friction lock) and the CTR (has friction lock and comes in comm/milspec) Whats the difference between the PTS CTR (http://www.magpul-pts.com/catalog/in...97fde49c003f16) and the regular CTR (http://store.magpul.com/product/MAG310/83)? Material....
PTS is made of some off-the-shelf Dupont high grade plastic, it looks like the stuff, but not rated to the same load. The RS stuff is made of some proprietary engineering polymer that Magpul developed for the US military. The compound itself is ITAR and thus is export restricted. They are not rated to the same force and obviously Magpul PTS won't guarantee its sturdiness used on the real steel gun. For airsoft PTS is fine. Where I stand, PTS costs nearly as much after shipping from HK, I can buy RS stuff in US. But thats location dependent. I am sure there are stores that carries RS Magpul item in Canada, for how much I don't know... |

My understanding is that the RS CTR is made from a classified and protected material and fits Real Steel Sized buffer tubes, whilst the PTS CTR is made from commercially available, high quality Du-Pont polymer and fits TM sized AEG buffer tubes. That is, unless you buy the mil-spec sized (GBBR) option.
MOE vs CTR = MOE doesn't have a QD sling attachment point, and no friction lock system. Last edited by Ale; October 7th, 2010 at 04:57.. |

The RS one also have commercial size buffer tube option, in addition to the Mil-spec tube...

You are correct, sir. What I meant was RS CTR's only fit RS sized buffer tubes.
I posted, then refreshed the page and saw your first post, which made mine useless. Quicker and more accurate... must be all the C.A.P.S. practice. I've editted it to try and avoid further confusion. Last edited by Ale; October 7th, 2010 at 05:01.. |

This thread kinda confused me. Magpul PTS stuff is all China/HK made replicas. The "Offical" PTS stuff is all suppose to be licensed by Magpul but there is plenty of people cloning it in China and Hong Kong.
The real steel version comes in an MOE and a CTR, both offered in Commercial and Mil-Spec sizes. If any company is offering a MOE or a CTR with the letters PTS in the title, its not real true Magpul gun parts. That said all the PTS stuff I've seen, G&P etc seems to be Mil-Spec in size.

1. Magpul PTS CTR 2. Magpul PTS MOE 3. Magpul CTR (mil spec/commercial) 4. China clones of the above |

"PTS" is Licensed reproduction of official Magpul stuff. Different material, some different design(ie, PTS Magpul MS2 sling). The business entity is based in HK. PTS to Airsoft magpul stuff is much like Madbull who makes licensed airsoft version of the rail system from DD and Noveske. They paid to use the design and trademark for non-realsteel market.
PTS is not the same as just plain knock-off though, there are lots out there....and most did not even bother with the PTS moniker since they actually want to knock-off genuine Magpul. |

Just as a sidenote, the "Marui" buffer tube is mil sized, and a real CTR fits just fine (I have/use one).
The PTS plastic (as used in the MIAD grip) is regular, decent-quality (by airsoft standards) ABS; the CTR is some kind of denser polymer. Most notable is the colors don't quite match up with the real steel parts, specially FDE. Quote:
Also there's PTS MOE and "Mil-Spec" MOE, and everything MOE goes for the same price as its PTS MOE counterpart, so I'm not sure if they're any different or just marketed as PTS to skirt around ITAR restrictions. I know that, at least for the handguard, the PTS version is marked "PTS" while the "milspec" version is marked "MOE."
