Is there any legal reason for doing AV? IS there a specific law banning me from doing airsoft if I'm under 18? Is it a insurance thing?
I've searched for this and I can't find this.

No there is no legal reason to get AV'd.

but it severely limits your options for places to buy and most places require 18+ to play for insurance reason and there are some cities that do have bylaws that prohibit the use and ownership of airsoft to 18+ only but AV'd here means nothing in the eyes of the law.

Some Provinces have laws that prohibited airgun / bb gun use under the age of 18, Ontario is one of them, not sure what others do.

As stated in several other threads already, Age Verification is an ASC thing only. It grants you access to the ASC classifieds and age restricted areas of the site. That's it, that's all, period. If there are retailers that use it to help ensure they are not selling to minors, great. The is no legal reqirement for any retailer, or seller for that matter, toparticipate with the ASC age verification process. You may be subject to proof of I'D in your province however and being AV'd here doesn't count.

The whole idea behind age verification was to prevent
Minors from aquiring guns and parts to build guns here.

So if I do find a place that allows under 18+ I'm not going to get arrested?

Not unless it's illegal where you are to buy, sell, or possess if under age without adult supervision. Of course like anything else, Airsoft must be used in a legal and responsible fashion no matter who you are. Always check you municipal and provincial laws to make sure you're in compliance. There's always the chance your local clubs won't let you play and you can't play just anywhere you wish.

The age verification has no power outside this forum. It is strictly an airsoftcanada.com thing. That being said, airsoft in Canada is generally a very tight community. So if you were looking to get involved in it it would be a good idea to get AV'd if you can. Of course there are some exceptions so if you already have a gun/a way to get a gun legally and have a group you play with, then there is not much point getting AV'd.

Have fun!

Getting AV'd is not just all about the Classifieds and getting guns. It opens up a whole lot of other threads on the forums. Also, most people are more inclined to answer a person who took the time to get AV'd as opposed to someone who couldn't be bothered getting it done.

well this user can't get AV as I assume from the few posts in this thread that they are under the age of 18.

Also take the time to fill out your profile so people know your location. This way if someone near you knows of a field that allows players under the age of 18 to attend they can let you know.

He's in a very small town next to Sherbrooke, about 30 minutes from me. It's like way out there, can't even find the house with GPS. The only reason he's asking this is because we've both been doing airsoft for some time now back in the states, and now his options are limited here

I never said it was only about the classifieds. I said that since the airsoft community is so tight, getting AV'd is a good idea if you plan on playing with many people or getting more involved in the community. But if he already apart of a group/has access to a gun/doesn't need to have more access to the forums (which is what I assume since he is asking from a legal standpoint) there is little reason to AV unless he wants the tag. So, from a strictly legal perspective, there is no need to AV at all.

SniperSam, did you both move up from the States?

So as long as I can find somewhere to play, its okay? Funny thing about being 18, I'm going to join the reserves and be able to use a real gun but whatever.

Dude, most people on this forum own real guns, are in or have been in the military and/or have a family. If you need it its not a big deal to get it, if you don't then good for you. AVing doesn't just weed out the kids with fake IDs, it's also there to screen people who might be gifted in years but not in maturity.

SniperSam, thats cool man. I hope you guys like in it Canada
