Big radios?

hey guys

So I've been running around with motorola talkabouts since I got them as a christmas present in like 2002, I like them they are small and easy to use but I see alot in the gear threads or the second line thread alot of people seem to have these huge radios that actually fit in a large radio pouch, they have the big long antenna (like you could fold it into your molle) and actually look like military radios. but they have to be able to use normal civilian channels so I can communicate with other players who also use random radios (moterola's and stuff) I believe thats called GMRS channels?

I want one.

so where do you guys get these things? like they fit in those MBITR pouches and have big antenna's like the MBITR radio but no way they are actually that radio. I know alot of people buy those shells (I have one I turn on my moterola and just drop it inside) but I see alot of actual large radios that look military that aren't Spartan, MBITR radios.

I'm looking for one to fit in a MBITR/PRC148 pouch and has a big antenna, also if they have normal (civilian?) mic plugs like motorola or the other one is Kenwood? if I gotta get a headset with a special kind of plug, I Dunno educate me on these things please I don't know where to google this kind of thing I don't want one with a propieritary (or however you spell it lol) plug design, I know there is another plug design out there that is common that I think is what the military uses and the other two mentioned above are for civilian use?

so to sum it up.

where's a big military looking radio that I can get?

it's gotta be able to use normal civilian channels so I can talk to others who just went and bought a civie radio like a talkabout.

longer antenna setup? like one I can weave into molle?

headset? a good design like bowman, is the radio plugged for motorola, kenwood or the other design?

please help I know very little about radio's I'm usually the guy trying to shout in a whisper voice to get a teamates attention or waving his arms frantically then pointing somewhere trying to show you where the enemy is.

Well in my case I stuffed the bottom of my pouch so my Puxing PX777 would seem to fill it up. With the PRC148 pouch's padding, it does the job lookwise 'till I get a dummy case. I added a Nagoyan enhanced antenna to sthis.

Also, you can buy whip antennas that are compatible with SMA plugs (which are used by most of the Puxing/Wouxun, etc.. radios. That being said I'm still looking for a blade antenna I could use...

These chinese radios mostly work with Kenwood plugs.

Or if you've got mucho money: http://rsov.com/index.php?target=pro...oduct_id=13013

There's also Motorola Sabers, Yaesu,... commercial-grade radios what would probably fit that description.

I personnaly bought myself a 5w Radio this summer, and it has nothing to do with motorola or any brand alike. I got it from 409shop.com, great site, a lot of choice, and within 100$ you get a very decent combination of radio, cb speakers with audio output on the mic to put an earpiece.

yes you,

your marsoc thread actually inspired this question. I realized today I have the base for a marsoc impression and will be building one this winter.

the radio you recommended here: http://rsov.com/index.php?target=pro...oduct_id=13013 thats not an actual MBITR is it? the price says $250 USD that is correct? cause that's like the exact radio I was talking about, it'll fit well in those PRC148 pouches?

EDIT: wait I see now it shows the headset plug on top there with the 6 pins (the little blue thing) thats the other plug I was talking about, what headsets go with those?

if you want radio stuff, talk to TechSeller on the forums. Hooked me and a lot of my buddies up with stuff, good prices and he backs up all his goods

So you want a big radio just for the looks?

If not there are a lot of small 5watt radios that are really good.

ya prettymuch, to actually look the part and fill a PRC148 pouch, but it's gotta be able to talk with the GMRS radios people buy at like canadian tire, not some crazy police frequency or something. I don't want a small radio I already have one.

I have no idea where to find big radios though that's the problem, or their accessories like a whip antenna, headset etc

Come check out the Wouxuns next time you're in town, Haakon. They're not "huge", but look great, function great, and you can get that extended antenna you want :P

Well glad to hear I'm inspiring you on achieving a more realistic setup! But say that to Vince, he's the one I'm getting a lot of info and tips from

Well actually I'm suggesting having a look at such options, but I can't really reccommend it as I've never tried. It's new on the internets (about 5 days on RSOV, never seen anywhere else yet) and it's quite expensive. It was mostly to show that there are a few working MBITR replicas. (There's also the ToySoldier, the DH and probably some others).

I am personally using a simple PX777 (from 409shop) with a Nagoya NA771 whip antenna. I'm on the lookout for a working blade antenna with an SMA plug (this is the antenna plug used by the PX777 and most chinese UHF radios).

This is a MIL connector, if I'm not mistaken. That being said, according to the diagram, it actually uses Kenwood plugs.

I love my Wouxun KG-UVD1P

Jeff, would you happen to have extra batteries and the short stubby antenna?

I found this one.. But it's a replica. It does show a channel list too.. And it seams to be cheap.. Anyone shed light on this one?

PS, open your online store.

1.5W output sucks. You want a 4W or 5W radio.

Ahh, True. So The "Wouxun KG-UVD1P" is probably the best bet? Im noob when it comes to radios. Just got the basic 2 way as well..

Any other ones that would fit the big sized Radio pouches around the same $150.00 Tag?
