ICS Gears and Motor Problems

Ok, I got that. I've fully disassembled the gun and I've got the gearbox spinning freely. When I put the motor back in and screw it all back up, the gearbox wont spin freely anymore. Im thinking that the motor is stopping it from spinning. Any suggestions to get it to sit better? should the Gears in the gearbox be spinning easily with the motor in place?

No, the motor prevents them from spinning freely. the magnets in the motor stop it from turning until you run power through them, that turns the motor. You should still be able to turn the gear with some force as you have to make sure the piston engagment teeth of the secotr gear and the tappet nub on the side of the secotr gear are in a neutral position so you can close th eupper onto it properly.

Why do you have it apart? Is there a problem or are you just curious. I end up fixing an awful lot of curious @ $20/hr.

No, Not curious. Whenever I try to fire the gun it just makes a loud sound like it really trying hard to spin the gears but it would not fire. Its not jammed or anything and its not the battery. I had to take it apart because it would not fire.

If the gear spin freely without the motor in place, they should be fine. Have you adjusted your motor height? There's a screw in the bottom of the grip to adjust it. If it's up too high, it's too tight and the gun jams, not firing. Loosen a 1/4 turn, fire, another 1/4 turn and so on until it fire ok and doesn't sound whiney.

Alternately (and the first thing to check), is your battery fully charged? If you're running those 2000mAh, 8.4v batteries I seen some come with, they don't have the grunt to power the Advanced models for long, if at all. and how are you charging the battery?

I have an 8.4 1100 mAh battery. I am charging it with a standard battery charger. I am fairly new to Airsoft so I dont have a smart charger yet.

I would say adjust your motor height first of all. Also if you had the motor out at all, make sure your wires are running where they should. The motor wires should go up the back of the grip. if they are wedged to the sides the motor won't turn correctly..

Really? Right now i've got them both running up both sides... Ill take a look at that. Also, I Unscrewed the bottom part. There are 2 Pill sized metal cylinders in there. Should i take the bottom one out and move the inside one down?

Yes, the dual screws are an ICS thing. Most other use a single screw or a tiny little grub screw.

Is this an "Advanced" model with the two upper mechboxes or a regular one? Presuming it's a Cansoft version with the tinted lower.

Uhh... I think this is the normal one with the single upper part to the mech box. And yes, It has the tinted lower. So I should take out one of the bottom screws and just use the one much lower?

If you take off the bottom plate and the motor doesn't flloat freely on the spring then your wires are causing problems. It puts stress on the pinion shaft and won't turn properly.

Only with the bottom plate off, once the plate is on the pinion spring takes up the slack and snugs it up.

Ok, I took the motor back out and tried to move the red wire to the back of the grip. It doesnt work. THe motor is right up against the sides of the grip and if i were to cram the wire down the side it would push it towards the other side. Also, the place where you screw the handle to the gearbox has 2 holes for the wires on opposite sides indicating that one goes up the front and 1 goes up the back.

I know exactly what you mean, i just can't figure out how to explain it. I'll leave it to one of the real Gun Doc's to explain. getting the wires in just the right spot is a real pain.
