SOCOM Gear Barrett M82

hello everyone!

Just a quick question, i am looking to grab the M82 and get her humming..

but does anyone have one and can anyone give opinions?

YES i know it'll weight a metric fuck-ton
YES i know it won't make me a SnIpEr ElItE
YES i know it'll need upgrading (i'm going to buy the kit and fill it up)
YES i know it's expensive

and finally YES i know it's not going to make my p*nis grow bigger, that's what i have these little blue pills for (fnar fnar)

so please, unless you own one no comment on the above points.

Apart from that, what is the quality of the rifle like? what do people hate/like about it?

thanks for any response!

It's very well built. solid as a tank.

nit-picking
- the rubber butt plate/recoil pad needs to be reglued
- the one I saw didn't have a barrel spacer (much like VSR10's) and I had to machine one so the inner barrel would be centered nicely

Other than not commenting on the retarded weight/size...it's a nice setup.

thanks for that! exactly the sort of info that i need, what was the setup of the one you saw?

i'm just trying to imagine what i would have to do to make this 'thing' match it's real-life prowess.. m170 with a three-round burst?

yes, i know.. some of you have had minor heart attacks at that suggestion...

Please suggest other ideas less.. Stupid.

at the moment i'm thinking of using VN mid-cap to replace the hicap mag (so i can short-load the magazines to what i want)

other questions, as i am getting the kit (not the full gun as i have gearboxes galore at the moment) i need advise on hop etc,

barrel ? (go for a prom 6.03 or a 6.01?)
HOP unit ? (Prom NEO strike?)
HOP Rubber ? (open to suggestions, but bear in mind it might have to survive 550 fps+)

to be honest, if i can get this to be a sharp shooter, i'd more then happily drop it to something a bit more sane like 450 to reduce the parts bill, as i know anything more gets $$$ in upkeep)

- Get a barrel spacer it will make you smile a lot more
- get a longer barrel the stock 650mm is puny compared to my 780mm, I got a PDI custom from Japan but if you don't want to spend that much you can get one made by edgi they take like 6 weeks make sure it's at least 750mm, 6.02 with a outer diameter of 8.5mm (otherwise your barrel can easily bend or have excess vibration) and ported.
- super glue the buttpad
- change the blue madbull hop up rubber, they are shit, I am currently using a Systema
- get a riser and a hi scope mount and make sure your scope is the biggest one around, small scope looks retarded on this rifle
- extra workout session, you'll need it

with the longer inner barrel and spacer to keep it centered your range just increased to some pretty insane range of over 200+feet with a .28, can't tell you exactly but it penetrated paper target with ease at exactly 182ft (the length of the field I tested)
For more power I have a old school BNIB PDI 360% linear aeg spring that I might consider putting in, almost forgot the stock cylinder is actually the same dimension as a prometheus bore up cylinder so it will have no issue of pushing that bb through the longer inner barrel
Current set up with the stock spring will give me 398 fps with a .28 with consistent travell on the bbs to the target, I will be trying the PDI 280% and maybe the 360%

P.S Your ***** will get bigger with this rifle

There's also the silly M170 spring sitting in the parts box...

It's basically an M4 setup...so knock yourself out with your mechbox setup. Obviously the cylinder capacity has to be considered for such a long setup.

Same with the hopup...although since this isn't a "regular" AEG build I'd lean towards trying out a couple of different hopup units and simply go with what works best. The fit with the stock one seems pretty good though, so I wouldn't expect odd fitting issues with any hopup.

I'd go with a medium rubber. It's not that you'll be pumping volume of fire through this thing. Breakdown and accessing the hopup is really, really easy...so swapping out the hopup rubber is no big deal.

Haven't tried fitting a VN mag into the box...it looks like a regular M-series mag stuffed into a shell though. Shouldn't be too hard. If you wanted to do a real cap setup you could probably just cut any mag down to size and redo the channel in it for BBs.

The barrel wildcard bought for it is superb. Be sure you fix the spacer so that the ports on the barrel clear it.

Scope mounts would be dependant on your scope selection....in general you would want the axis of the scope to be as close to the axis of the bore as possible.

Good luck with the build. You may find that you need to shim the spacer block to tighten up things...but just figure it out as you go, it's simple.

One thing to note...be careful not to drop the whole hopup and inner barrel out of the outer barrel when you take it apart...

thankyou both, i have been reading your comments to the letter..

just one question.. how the hell do you put a 780mm barrel on this thing? i know that's way above normal cylinder capacities, so what do you use (systema bore-up?) to prevent miss-match?

also, because i'm getting the kit, i'll be putting in something nice and strong

Bore up setup is a must. Go with whatever manufacturer tickles your fancy. I personally like the Systema setup.

I think the Systema Complete M170 M16 mechbox/motor kit has a bore up setup...can't remember for sure.

Swapping the spring down to something more friend-friendly is a snap.

i have one of those boxes in my SPR i know it has a bore-up and it seems like a great idea to stick an M150 in it,

if it can take an m170, it should stay alive for a while with an M150..

or i have a complete m150 gearbox right here

right, now to cost this project..

Custom PDI barrel available only in Japan from PDI Boutique if you don't want to spend the cash then go with EDGI. The maximum length you can run with a bore up is 800mm also as I and Ty suggested earlier you have to mak ea barrel spacer otherwise your barrel will not center, don't ask me why it is just a design flaw everything else is built solid. I would suggest if you really have to use a M170 go with either the revolution or the systema energy box

I'd rather buy 2-3 regular Systema boxes than struggle with a Revolution...

I'd also be very tempted to mod whatever box I used for this type of build with one of the new SCU units. The repeatable, consistent full cycle and fast trigger response would be suitable for this type of rifle.

The newer revolution is supposed to be better however i am leaning towards the energy boxes with the SCU

wildcard, cheers for that bit of info, i think i'll stick with EDGI then,

plus i'm sticking with the 'vanilla' boxes, i don't want to have one big bag of gremlins from all the new and untested (by me) components.. the ECU sounds fun but i think i'll stick to what i know works without giving me weird and wonderful problems..

can i also take the time and thank you all again for the replies, they have gone along way to me justifying this build in my own mind and clarify what i'll need in my build.
