What type/make of scope to get?

Looking for a little help from people that may have an answer for me.
Just picked up a M700 Police and now looking to put a good scope on it.
Done a little research on it and looks like I don't need anything more than a x4 scope for Airsoft work. Was wondering what kind of scope other airsofters have gotten for there sniper rifles. I could go out to the local store and get the "you can pick the ass out of a fly from 10km away" scope but I know that may be a little over kill. But would prefer to hear what you may have used with success. Also if you have any input where you picked it up it would be great to know.
Thanks again for your help

You could go to your local outdoor store and see what hunting scopes they have...

You want something with no more than 9x on the top end and no more than 3x on the low end.

Really IMHO the best scope would be a 1-4x, but they are very expensive optics.

However Vortex makes a couple reasonably priced scopes in the 1.5-5 and 2-7x range.

Here is the spoon feed:

Add a nice big sunshade and it will look the part.

Do not be tempted with going either big or really cheap on optics. Vortex makes decent stuff in the cheap catagory and they have really good warranty.

From experience, you will find that a decent quality hunting scope made for real gun will be miles ahead than any "replica" scope out there.

The look will be quite close on both, but the clarity and precision of the lenses in the real deal is far better. I am not even talking about 500$ scopes.

A 100$-150$ scope at Walmart/Canadian Tire does an awesome job. I had a 175$ M1 replica and a 75$ on sale Bushnell scope. The Bushnell one was a LOT better than the replica.

When you are choosing your scope, you want to check a few things:

Eye relief. For an M700/VSR-10, between 3" and 4.5" is good. Longer will cause trouble and shorter will prevent you from operating the bolt properly.

Lense size (diameter). Between 38mm and 50mm. Anything over that will be in the way of your barrel. Anything under will have poor eye relief and won't be easy to sight.

Tube size (diameter). Most scopes are 25mm or 30mm. The later is supposed to be clearer, but that is when comparing same quality scopes. In my exemple, the Bushnell had a 25mm tube vs. the 30mm tube of the copy, yet it was better.

Scope lenght. That might sound like a cosmetic-only choice, but it is not. If you take a short "M4" scope, you will have to use higher rings to have it clear the rails properly. If you choose a longer scope, you can then use mid or low height rings and have the scope opening go closer to your barrel after the receiver.

Ring height. That is closely related to the shape of your scope. You want the scope to hug your rifle as close as possible while being just high enough for you to sight it properly.

Get the high rings, for two reasons. That rifle has the hop up adjust right under the objective lense (as you know) so higher rings will give you a bit more room to get your fat fingers in. Second, the higher mounts will work better with your goggles as far as proper cheekweld goes. I found medium height rings to be too low and was more difficult to use the rifle well (paintball goggles would actually press off to the left opening a huge gap when I was actually able to get the proper sight picture.)

Yeah I read that the bolt cycle can get tricky with a low mount, good point on the goggle, hadn;t thought of that. Once I get all the pieces I'll see how everything fits, with goggles on, and take it from there. Next step is a good bi-pod, need to check the height I'm going to need for that one to. Then comes the fun part. painting it up.
And for your FYI I'm not fat fingered, it all water retention :-)

You can't go wrong with the Bushnell XLT Trophy line.

It can be tricky to find a REAL mildot scope for under 300 bucks in Canada these days. Most of the ones you want are made in the USA and are on the ITAR list.

I lucked out with Lebaron's
http://www.lebaron.ca

Bushnell Trophy XLT Mildot
exactly like this:

AWESOME image quality, and I'm comparing this bushnell scope to a Trijicon Ta31F 4x Acog.

Also has butler creek flipup scope caps, for a bit extra, you can order in a killflash.

I paid $132.00 in the end (No tax as they had a sale going on all week) as far as I know they have one of these left in stock.
