Mags: 68 rnds or 120 rnds?
From experience what have you guys found fit more into your play style? What kind of playing style do you have?
I'm going to be getting mags at the end of the week and debating between the two capacities. |

50 to 68 is ideal.
I'm playing more milsim oriented. On my CIRAS I usually carry 8 mags, but I've never used more than 4 even in skirmish or "pure assault" games. IMHO lower than this (like 30rnds realcaps), with the 5 BBs lost in the hopup... it's really not enough. And 120rnds midcaps are almost worst than hicaps, because on hicaps you have to wind them after what... 30 rnds shot? With 120rnds midcaps you can shoot 115 BBs in one burst.

I use to play with real cap:30rnd
Now that i have 2 ak's i play mostly with 100rnd (ak74) as ak74 real caps are near impossible to find I just shoot by burst never in long 115 rnd burst as conker said (but its nice to unload all the mag on players that dont call their hit ) I just bought an ICS M4 and bought 75rnd pmag because i couldn't find pmag in real cap... sold out. I just depend on your style of play you know.

Ye I'm leaning more towards the 68 rounds to stay closer to the milsim side.

If I could find reliable 68 rounders that worked in both my guns (KA has failed me) I would use them, but otherwise I use 100 round MAG mags or 120 round STAR mags.

If you're going for realism, get STAR 30rd PMAGs. They actually hold 34 rounds, which means you still end up with 30 rounds, despite the last four in the hop-up. I was told that the 80rd versions jam lots, but I was only able to get one of my 30 rounders to jam, and all it took was a good smack to the bottom to un-jam it.
EBAirsoft is selling them in packs of five for $40, go check it out. |

I went with the king arms 130 round mid caps. it allows you to have the extra ammo if you need it for a longer game and you can always just fill them part way if there is an ammor cap or you just won't need that much for the game. IMO its the best of both worlds.

CA metal mid caps. 130 rounds are great for skirmishes. Short loaded to 34 rounds for all other games.

And yeah, pick brand names, no ACM stuff for mags.
I have 10 STAR real caps, all feeds perfectly, while my two ACM 120-rounds Pmags jams if they're filled with more than 50 BBs.

what highcaps are you dealing with? I wind mine once and they feed until I run out of ammo. I have refilled them before I ran out of ammo and it will feed around 450 rounds before I have to rewind it. it is a TM M4/M16 highcap.

Either capacity is fine (I tend to load real cap into whatever mags I have anyways).
For field gaming AEGs I actually prefer plastic mags. Bomb proof and cheap enough that if you loose one in a scramble it's no big deal. I had plenty of broken metal mags (the type where the metal shell goes over the plastic inner)....they're nicer in the clinkety-clank sort of way...but that's about it. Buy plastic...load them to whatever you want/like...buy new ones every season. |
