Magnification in airsoft really isn't that useful as far as target aquisition is concerned. Most will use scopes and such for observing rather than zeroing in on your kill because lets face it the ballistics in airsoft is nothing like real steel. Also, if you can't see your target within your guns maximum effective range of 200ish feet then perhapse you should buy glasses instead.
I'd go with iron sights or an rds of some kind but, if you really want a scope the most i'd go with is 2 or 3X (for actual aiming assistance). |

RDS
I got an RDS, and I am very happy with it. I am not totally sure that a 4x is worth it on an AR, given the fact that you are more then likely playing in the bush with a limited effective range.
I got mine from AirsoftDepot.ca, this one to be exact.

Personally Ive always liked the look and functionality of open reflex type sights. Also they are cheap and real steel versions are available for a fraction of the price of enclosed more expensive clones of other military sights.
Given that the range of air soft is limited the ability to have full depth perception as well as fast acquisition is nice. |

go to a game, and ask to give different peoples guns a try (to looks down their sights) to see what you like. I personally preffer magnified but also use red dot on one of my guns and iron on another.

Red dot for close quarters, magnified for long range.
Either or, irons need to be on. |
