ESSairsoft.com
I didn't find any topic about that, so I'm posting it.
I think it's a good news for us. ESS will produce goggles for airsoft. Their site isn't ready yet but here is the link: www.essairsoft.com I like to see good companies thinking about the airsoft market. More options. ;-) |

Not sure what`s wrong with the regular line of ESS products? You can get ESS NVGs for about $50.
How badly do you really want to cheap out on your eye protection?

Mine were a present, but I think the going rate is like $80 - $100 for ESS Advancer V12's (at the time)...total overkill for airsoft, but will protect my beautiful eyes when someone shoots me point blank with a 12 gauge shotgun.

You sure can find ESS for super cheap now on eBay and the like. Too bad the fan ones are still expensive.
I like the nose cover on these! |

I like how these manufacturers (ie magpul) are developing products specifically for airsoft.

i dont really understand the point of these. They already have the ballistic goggles, and if those aren't good enough what will be? Nevertheless, i use paintball googles, as i like the full coverage and the fact that the lens's are almost bullet proof (in the case of my Vforce grill, they are, but i dont know with 100% certainty that my Save Phace ones are)

Perhaps, like Magpul/Magpul PTS, ESS is concerned export restrictions may be applied to their military products. An airsoft-specific line wouldn't be subject to it, even though its virtually the same product (take the Magpul CTR stock, for example: the only thing different for the PTS version is the box, the stock itself is even still branded Magpul, not Magpul PTS).

My guess would be the big red X on airsoft related to insurance.
As long as the goggles are built to a standard and issued and sold to professionals and the like they can feel confident the chances of being sued for negligence for real or phony reasons are low. Once they open a new door they have to decide if the cost of liability coverage and testing will exceed what the make off the new market There are a lot of folks in grey world already using ESS so they have to wonder if this is worth the trouble. For some products the cost of liability insurance that's built into the cost of the product is frankly ridiculous, and for something that's risky (being shot near the eyes?) they can't hand you $40 and a t-shirt if get hurt. Even the frivolous stuff costs plenty to deal with never mind an actual incident. |
