Ahhhh... I remember the FN from my days back in cadets. What a beast that thing was. So big, heavy and powerful. It was a joy to shoot on the range, but I can certainly see how carrying that rifle with a full load of ammo would be a pain in the ass for a soldier in the field.

I still prefer armalites for feel and comfort, but when talking real steel, there's no arguing the superiority of the big 7.62 round...

There are mod kits out there to convert real steel or airsoft guns to Star Wars guns. I was seriously considering getting a Mauser to conver to Han Solo's blaster.

The reason for Canada going to the C1 after the Korean war was that the NATO standard round was 7.62mm. During the Vietnam war the Americans had switched to 5.56mm with the introduction of the M-16 later during the eighties and nineties the rest of NATO had switched to 5.56mm including Canada with the introduction of the C-7, C-8 and the later variants. The C1 based support weapon fired the same caliber bullets but the mags could carry I believe thirty rounds as opposed to twenty with the basic rifle. So you could fire a bigger bullet than the C-9 or M249 SAW but less bullets.

I think the MP-5 also replaced the Sterling sub-machine gun at least with the Navy as we didnt have Special Forces until the early nineties which at the point what was to become JTF2 was under RCMP command.

your correct the c1 did have a 30 rnder mag but it was for the support weapon , when i was in basic we stil got to toy with them and that was in 1990 , still love them , tough as hell and could be used as a club . i do like the c7 but i can still remeber handguards flying off , butt stocks breaking and c7 rattles to this day.

Haven't seen handguards fly off the C7A2's yet, but my mate did break one of the stocks when it got too cold

I remember once with the origial c7 , we were doing drill and snapped to attention and the stock went flying across the parade square . NOt cool
