Shotgun Scabbards??
ok so i did search before starting this thread but my main question is, is it more cumbersome to have a scabbard attached to your vest, belt, etc or to just sling the shotgun, anyone have experience doing both? im leaning towards getting a vest attachable scabbard but wanted opinions first.

Knyte tactical makes a Scabbard for shotguns, you should contact him about those. And I dunno, I personally toat around a sniper rifle (Classic army M24) And having that slung alone can get very combersome and annoying if you're trying to move through brush, A scabbard would eliminate that. and keep the gun protected if scratches concern you.

I have seen scabbards gamed and the biggest complaint was getting that gun out fast if you REALLY needed lol

I've been looking into this as well. I'd like to add a scabbard to some loops I have on the back of my Tactical vest, for an over the shoulder access!

I got a leftover shotgun scabbard from my Tanaka M870. It worked really well but I didn't have a MOLLE vest so it didn't attach very well.
I got mine from Specialforcesgear.com but they ship FedEx so I got murked on custom fees. |

If your using it for outdoors then I would advise a back scabbard. I believe LBT and TAG both make some. Uncle Mikes possibly as well. Not bad unless you need it out in a hurry.
Eagle industries put out a leg scabbard for a m870 for breachers or CQB movements. Check ebay for that stuff. |

best idea is to put a scabbard on an assault pack, but the best idea I've seen to far is a simple one point sling on the shooting shoulder, and have it retained at your side by a 'weapon retention holster' (its a fancy term for a velcro strap on your belt that keeps the shotgun from getting it the way)

The scabbard is meant to keep the secured weapon from bouncing around (keep it secure) and to protect it to a degree if your rolling around on it, it essentially allows you reasonably fast/easy access to your weapon without having to have the weapon's sling really tight against you to keep it from, again, bouncing around while your moving.
Military Morons has a nice review of a shotgun scabbard: http://www.militarymorons.com/weapons/longguns.html As for attachment, to the back of a vest with molle works fine, having the scabbard itself on a sling/harness like the one in the military morons review works fine too, and also like TC said, attaching it to an assault pack also works well. It just depends on how it's made and how it sits to be comfortable/usable. As for the big complaint about getting the gun out fast if you really need it, you shouldn't be using a scabbard like that if you need lightning fast access to whatever it holds anyway. But you can get the weapon out and ready in a very reasonable time with a proper setup. And of course I can certainly make one to your specs if you like. Price wise from me would be anywhere between 50-80 depending on what your looking for. Last edited by WARFIGHTER; August 11th, 2008 at 19:15.. |
