Do I need a new charger?
Just read the battery FAQ but I still could use some advice. I have two mini Intellect 8.4v 1600mAh NiMH, that I am charging with a dumb 12v 300mA charger. The batteries are still very new...I've charged/discharged them both twice (charge time of 4 hours). After reading the FAQ I'm concerned about the charger's voltage (and will be increasing the charge time to 5.5 hours). Is a better charger worth the investment? What does a smart charger do?

What I can tell you is, It's a good investment for a good charger, it will save you a lots from buying new battery. If you are not using a proper charger even you buy a best battery on the market, it won't last long than cheap one. What I know from smart charger is, it will know the kind of your battery use, light indicate battery charge and full .... . That's all I know. Hope it help.
Cheers ! KND Quote:

I have the same one. Best $35 you will put into airsoft. It's simple and foolproof yet it will get the job done. I've recommended it in about 3 different threads now.

I do have one like that, also I have another one like that either but the Lipo battery. I would recommend you to use it. 35 $ is a very good investment for your long life battery.

I also have the smart charger (mine is a Tenergy) and it works great. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think it even has a trickle feature so once the battery is fully charged it cuts back power to the battery so it doesn't overcharge. All in all it was well worth the money.

I was never a fan of a $100 charger that makes you a sandwhich and wipes your ass for you in addition to charging a battery. I can make my own sandwhich and wipe my ass, so the $35 one that simply charges the battery is a great investment for me. I use the thing to charge all my battery packs for both airsoft and R/C. It works great.
