PAINTBALL FIELDS AND EYE WEAR

I was recently informed by the owner of a local paintball field that he is having more and more frequent incidents with airsofters trying to argue that ballistic goggles are acceptable for use on paintball fields. "Oh, they'll stop this, or they're rated for that. Look, they seal around the eyes...."
Enough is enough people.....regardless of what you and I think about eye protection, paintball fields operate with strict guidelines handed down to them by their insurance companies, and if they want to maintain their business/operating licenses they must comply within these guidelines......and this includes eye protection.
Their insurers have clearly stated that only paintball approved eye protection can be used on their property, period. There are NO exceptions to this rule, and no business owner is going too risk having their insurance yanked for any one airsoft player.
Hell, they don't care if you boycott them or what not, they really don't need our business, and they sure as hell don't need the aggravation of dealing with airsoft players back talking to them about eye protection.
But you know what?? It's really nice to have a local place where we can scrim, goof around, and play with our expensive toys with out the neighbors calling in the cops. It's a real convenience for the majority of us, and most paintball fields are more than willing to accommodate us any time of the year.

Rules for eye protection are always posted by the hosts of any event, what is acceptable, and what is not. Any event posted for a paintball field always states paintball approved eye protection, and this will never change.
So please either invest in paintball goggles, Brass Eagle, JT, what ever, or rent them at the field..... and for the love of God stop trying to argue with the refs and owners at these paintball fields, cause their patients are running thin. They will start warning players, once....then you will be banned from the property for any length of time they see fit.
They have the legal right to do so.

Thank you... I hate it when people are bitching about masks detracting from the milsim aspect. Yeah, you may look like a dork and you won't be able to use your sights too well, but rules are rules.

what you're saying sha do is that the guy who spent thousands and thousands of dollars on his field and then thousands and thousands of hours working to build his business and pursuing advertising, municipal Gov'ts, suppliers, lawyers, insurance companies, thousands of Paintballers, cor-pirat-ions that spend thousands of dollars annually. A guy who measures sales in the millions, who threw a bone to a bunch of scrappy Airsofters five-10 ish years ago, is not interested in the futile arguments of a newbie airsofter and would rather throw his ass off the property and never see his 20 bucks again, then go back to dealing with his insurance company, open up new clauses and sink a bunch of cash into a small amount of players that would rather risk losing and eye for the sake of a game? We should write letters..........
Who says sarcasm cannot be read on the web.

It wasn't until 'saying' that the sarcasm sunk in.

Seriously though, paintball field owners are doing US a favor by letting us play on their fields. Least you can do is bide by their rules and get the proper equipment to play. Hell, the field out here (Panther) doesn't even require the mask, just the goggles, so they're going out on a limb to give us some service!

i'm glad this is being addressed. every year more airsofters join in the winter and go to their first pb field outdoor games in the spring and run the risk of getting everyone fucked by the owners by running ballistic goggles. i saw a case of this at the last game even and it disgusted me pretty bad. safety rules are not for interpretation, especially at places where injuries are factored into insurance.

i guess not many people are aware of the seriousness of that particular rule at paintball fields but tactical goggles are not designed with the same intentions as paintball goggles (dust/blast protection vs. protection from projectile of a given size from most angles), and shouldn't be treated as interchangeable anywhere.

you might be comfortable at potentially increasing risk on your eyes but that doesnt mean your host cares for the increase in liability. don't shit where you eat, it's common sense.

I don't get what the big deal is - buy a decent JT mask and just take the face protection off. BAM - you're left with paintball rated goggles that will only take 30 minutes of use to become second-nature.

I have a Spectra, and the goggles allow for near-full peripheral vision, anti-fog inserts, and are small enough that you can easily use iron sights.

Anyway - people that think they're above the rules make me unhappy.
