More Kraken information for those thinking of buying

More Kraken information - pasted from a PM conversation - just in case anyone has similar questions.

which is the one that shoots at around 370 fps.
I am asking because i read that the US kraken is not so good as the one that comes with the OD green stock and grips, which is supposed to be the Cyma CM-028- Second Edition (Pre-Upgraded) like the ones buyairsoft sells
Thanks in advance.

PS: btw, how is the gun performing?

Hi, apologies for the late reply
The gun arrived just two days ago (they were out of stock so I had to wait for a while on back order). It is indeed the same gun, the green one with clear body. It almost shot through the base of a Coke can. The BB sunk to a depth of its diameter, and only a small sliver of can was left at the base of the hole. That puts it around 370 fps, I should think. It has so far performed exactly like others have said - battery only lasted around 300 shots per charge so far though this may be my own fault because I did exactly as the manual instructed, "fully discharged" and discharged to 0v. This is somehing you should never do to a multipack of cells - info found on the web. It may damage some of the cells. We'll see if battery life picks up after a few cycles; they say it takes three or four complete cycles to reach maximum capacity.

The manual makes mention of the "028 series," so I think it is the 028 mechbox, we can safely say. I can only assume the "pre-upgrading" was done by Aftermath, who whacked in a stiffer spring, or perhaps they contracted CYMA to do it to the mechboxes they order. There is red threadlock over some of the body shell screws visible through the plastic lower receiver.

The magazine fed perfectly, no issues. The gun has what feels like outstanding range. It shoots really hard. Hopup is a bit iffy - it caused quite a bit of variation and curved sideways sometimes when I put too much on, but with just a little it works well. Accuracy seems reasonable but I don't have any experience with HPEGs to compare it to. I could hit a man sized target with an audible clack at 150 feet, though the bb had slight drop-off; at around 100 feet it was very easy to hit stuff. At 25 feet you can split bbs onto each other. Rate of fire is very good. It seems better than the Krakens I have seen in Youtube clips. So far no reliability issues, gearbox sounds just nice in full auto or in semi. Construction seems very solid except for how the metal receiver cover up top fits - it's a little loose but nothing that bothers you too much. I can keep you posted of any more issues....

So far I am extremely pleased with the gun, and am tempted to keep it stock for a while before doing my planned mods, since it shoots so well. I may not even put a new barrel in because the loose stock barrel will allow me to use cheap bbs without stressing.... It's in keeping with the spirit of the real AK to keep performing with shit ammo, even if accuracy is not fantastic! I may replace the hop-up bucking and rubber only if I cannot adjust it to be consistent again when I next try the gun outdoors - I had to cut my session short today.

EDIT: further questions - the pictures I have seen of Kraken hop-ups were white plastic, I seem to recall. This one is black - could it be a newer variant?

i just bought the steel body one with the beige parts for 70 bucks u.s.
waitin for it to arrive in the mail. i dont plan on upgrading it at all, its stock performace sounds quite satisfying to me for all the low level battles i may get into. i might paint the beige parts, thats probly about it. maybe use a 9.6 volt instead of the 8.4 it comes with. i just hope that it will hold up and not suddenly stop working for no apparent reason like some crappy aeg's
