Some TM (or CA) AUG questions

Is the front grip inevitably going to break at some point by holding it "normally"? Or does it only break from taking a hard hit or abuse (like lifting the whole gun with it).

Is the "Guarder steel grip catch" worth it? It's about the same price as replacing the whole grip.

On the civilian version, in order to achieve the typical scoped look, Do you need low or high scope rings?

What's the difference between scopes that cost around $70 and those which are nearly $200?

I've owned my AUG for 4 years and have yet to break the vertical grip; however the vertical grip is a fragile piece of the gun so I consciously try to be careful with it. If you think you're really abusive/unlucky with your AEG's then you should consider investing in the Guarder Steel Grip Catch. Otherwise don't bother.

My vertical grip was fine for 4 yrs as well until i did a night game in the woods and broke both grips (have 2 augs), the first one made sense since i was running around in the dark so it was going to break. Just didn't think about taking it off before hand. But the second one was a bit odd because it was jsut in my guncase and when i went to use it, it was already broken. No idea how it broke, but somehow it did it in my case or from the game before and i jsut never noticed.

It depends on the kind of field you play in. If its mostly urban type then you wont need to worry about it. However if its in the woods, invest in the steel grip catch or take off the grip.

As for the rings, It depends on the type of eye protection you are going to wear. If you jsut use shooting glasses, low rings work fine. For PB goggles, high rings are most likely needed.

EDIT: After reading Kos-mos post i went through my bag of airsoft stuff and found the scope rings i had for my 40mm 3x9 scope. They are not the low mounts. They are med rings (10mm heigh), which is the lowest you can use if you are using a 40mm scope. Im not using that pair of rings though. I found them to be too low for use with paintball googles, so im using the hi-mount for M4A1s (the angled one).

Haven't had any problems yet with my foregrip but like others I consciously attempt not to use it much. Most of the time it's folded up and I use the outside of the handguard for supporting the Aug.

Standard rings should be ok. Again that depends on how far down your mask goes. A full paintball mask will make it very difficult to use a scope on the Aug.

instead of hemming and hawing whenever I have the grip down, I just replaced it with the steel grip
doesnt take long

if you put a big ass scope there, you might need high instead of med mounts
I find I like med better, as I dont have to crank my head at weird angles to scope in; and high looks weird

more expensive scopes are (usually) meant for real steel rifles, and will hold a zero even after getting kicked around by recoil
cheaper ones are meant for airguns, generally speaking

Thanks for the answers guys.

One more...

In order to use a large battery attached to the stock, do you need to drill a hole on the receiver or butt plate?

You mean like an external battery in a battery bag?
You can drill a hole through either the stock or the butt plate. When I did it I put the hole through the butt plate as it is a cheaper and easier part of the gun to replace should I ever want to get rid of the hole. Personally I never liked using a battery bag on the stock, and over time I ended up getting an RTS rail system, mounting a PEQ battery box on it and wiring the gun to the front.

I had an AUG before, and I have on in my hand right now (got to repair it).

I didn't had any problem with the vertgrip stem... but I heard that is can be a problem. I would say, just use the gun like that, if it breaks, then you can change it. If not, you just saved 30$!

As for the scope, I have a 40mm 3-9 scope. I can't install it on the AUG with my low mounts, the dial for the zoom is in the way. The customer has a 30mm 4x scope and there is no problem using low mounts. I would suggest you to use med rings too. High rings don't fit right on an AUG since the rail is already rised. Better on ARs.

As for the battery, you can do a little notch on the bottom right side of the buttplate, so that it is not too visible, and the wire won't be in the way.

be careful with the civi AUG rail: it is weird and some scopes and accessories don't fit because of the tiny metal bumps on the base of the rail on both sides, or because the picatinny slots are too small.
In those case, I suggest you do just like me, grab a metal file and 'repair' it.
