New to Airsoft!
Hello all, first post hopefully of many. I am personally looking to getting into Airsoft and having loads of fun. I love paintballing but the cost of going is just to out there to be completely honest and i'm looking for something a bit less expensive that I can do with my siblings. Anyways, i've been looking into getting an Airsoft gun from Canadian Tire. I'm looking for input on this gun, and if you don't think I should get it could you make some suggestions? Thanks in advance and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Welcome to Airsoft Canada!
First of all, Airsoft is just as expensive to fully "get into" as tournament-level speedball (the expensive paintball), and while BB's are almost free when you compare them to the cost of paintballs and CO2, the travelling expenses incurred by travelling to the games (the best ones may be far from you) will definitely set things over paintball; Second, Canadian Tire sells what many here will call "crapsoft" or "clearsoft" - and with very good reason. The clear plastic electric BB guns you find there are of very poor quality and are not going to last you nearly as long as a proper airsoft gun. You will only find "proper" airsoft guns online, and from Canadian retailers - there are links provided at the top of this page in the form of a drop down menu, scroll over "Canadian Retailers" for some links. 007 Airsoft is the only active one at the moment, and will be one of the only viable sources for decent airsoft guns for a while. If you're thinking of buying an airsoft gun from anywhere but Canada, don't - Customs is almost guaranteed to seize your replica. As for suggestions, you get what you pay for. A decent AEG (automatic electric gun) will set you back around $500-600 new, and usually $350-550 used - with upgrades you can easily quadruple that figure. It has been decided, quite some time ago, that all airsoft transactions that can be controlled be restricted to persons who are at the age of majority. You will find your going here quite difficult if you aren't of age. If you are 18+, then your best bet is to attend a local game or two and meet up with an age verifier to get verified. Please fill out your profile so we know where you're from. A note to those responding to him: I am tired of people flaming new people, I will be reporting posts that are mean. Being friendly and informative is key to the growth of this sport. Don't bash the new guys, EDUCATE them!

Hello and welcome. Hope you are over 18 to buy in classifieds (+ verified). If you are very tight with money a JG or Kracken would be a better choice and last you longer and perform better than the CT gun. Airsoft less expensive than Paintball????? I wish. but it depends, you can easily spend thousands in both sports. THE decent gun such as a TM will run over $500 or a JG with upgrades for that price
If you are just playing with friends (in an airsoft appoved place with goggles and other safety gear) and just want to fart around and not sure if airsoft is for you, just a fad you will tire of, then a cheap gun could be a option. Still why blow $100?? IF you are determinded to make airsoft a hobby for a few years, invest in a more reliable gun, with better internals, decent battery, etc would be a wiser choice, because you will grow tired of the CT gun quickly (range, FPS) if it does not break down due to cheap weak internals. THere are many gun reviews out there, just google or search this forum.

Hey there MattiMex. i can agree with these guys about the CT gun. in fact i work at a CT. the gun is mostly plastic and isnt very durable. from my experience, because of the FPS being so low the gun has less than perfect accuracy and is limited to super close range. that being said; if your just starting out and wanna try one to get an idea and to go around playing with friends, than go ahead check it out ! hopefully it gets you excited about getting into the sport a littl emore seriously. we always need more enthusiest helping the sport

As far as guns goes, i'd say go for a JG maybe if your budget is tight. Good reliable gun, (Tokyo Marui clone), not as much as other guns, but good enough to use at games, or competions. I believe A&A airsoft has many new models in stock, so check them out. |

Welcome to ASC!
I hate to break it to ya dude, but the generally accepted level of $$ to get into airsoft is around $1,000. It can be done for less if you look around. It's this expensive because you need a fair bit of gear: -Gun -Ammo -Batteries -Saftery Equipment -Boots -Vest -BDUs Now, having said that, you don't need all of it at once. You can get by for a while with just a gun, goggles, and BDU's. Now is the time to get age verified though, so come spring time when people are cleaning out their closets you can grab good deals on kit from the classifieds.

On the Canadian Tire website...
"This is a very accurate gun, The only downside is you can't see through the scope until you are very low on bb's.Other than that minor fault it is a very good airsoft gun and I would recommend it to everyone." |

"we always need more enthusiest helping the sport" We also need better spellers in the sport and less morons who recommend new kids go by cheap crapsoft guns and go play out in the open. We DO NOT need that kind of "help" in the sport

Cheap clearsoft guns in public isn't a problem. That's why they're clear. If more people did it, maybe we could push back the PC bullshit that's made us feel dirty for doing things that are perfectly legal if not socially acceptable.
Maybe more kids playing safely with clearsoft on residential streets would make it more socially acceptable to play the same sport with guns that aren't clear in places that we used to play in without fear of soccer moms or police....like the neighborhood nature trail or abandoned buildings. Wear eye protection and make sure of your backstop. As long as you're using clear guns I don't see an issue with shooting each other on the sidewalk in front of your house...but the neighbors might not feel the same way |
