Question Marui MP5 Flashhider thread won't fit over longer inner barrel?

Hey guys,

Just a small problem I encountered while smithing a friend's MP5: I installed a longer M4 length tightbore inner barrel into the AEG and all seemed to fit normally. However, when I tried to fit the front part of the MP5 over the now longer inner barrel, I noticed that something was not allowing the tightbore to go all the way through out the end of the gun.

Upon closer inspection I found that the part where the flashhider normally screws onto the gun has some sort of "lip" that doesn't allow the inner barrel to go past through that point.

So I'm just wondering is this a normal implementation of the TM MP5? Is it worth it to find someone to mod the piece to widen the opening? Or is there a cheap aftermarket part I can get to replace it?

Thanks in advance for your help

Edit: The part in question appears to be MP-11 according to the TM MP5 tech manual. I tried to do some searching related to this problem to no avail

Dremel. I had to do the same with my MP5A as well.

Worth it? Yes, I put a stock 330mm inner barrel into my MP5SD and the fps went up by 20fps.

Almost all TM guns have that "lip". It is because the hop-up usually is spring mounted, without this there is sometime too much play and the gun miss feeds (happended with my friend's AUG)

I used a 23/64 or 11/32 (I can't remember which at the moment) drill bit and just put it on my drill press. It fixes the problem in seconds. You can use a dremmel as well but it would take a while to get the job done.

I used my Dremel with a diamond bit on it since the only drill bits I have at home larger than 1/4" are all wood bits.

don't forget to tape around the inner barrel to make the space tighter so that it won't wobble around inside :P

Kinda like the Armalite design, eh? It's only held in place at the hop up, other than that it free floats as bad as KSC Glocks do. MP5 inner barrel is held solidly at three different places, which is a huge help to the MP5's above average accuracy.
