I was lucky, the paint thinner I used only took off the spray paint and not the factory markings... but it really was a lot of work.
I never tried the gun before I repainted it and then I finally tried it last night. I don't know if its related to me disassembling it or not, but the gun only shoots every other shot or so in semi and is inconsistant in full auto, only firing 5-8 bbs at a time in between blank fires. Its weird. I'm gonna take it apart and see if I can figure it out. Any ideas?

When you were putting the gun back together make sure the tappet plate is put back properly, it's a cheaply made one and was the issue I had with mine when I first got mine. A little silicone oil may help, just watch the little spring.
