How old are you? Where do you play? Have you ever been hit by a BB travelling at 500fps?

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

people that need super high fps guns cant compensate for wind speed and gravity, they need the gun to do all the work for them

We have no FPS rules where I live. We do have minimum engagemets for guys with super-hot guns. All our players are experienced enough to use whatever gun at anytime and safety is not really an issue.
We opted for this as a result of many hot-out-of-the-box guns like the M700 or the rash of G&P guns out there. We didn't believe it was fair to force people to detune a perfectly good gun just for our comfort level. We all use quality kit, BDUs are usually mandatory, as well as quality eyeware. Couple this with the large enagement distances, and you are usually engaging others at or near the max range of your weapon, even if it's upgraded. At the same time, we noticed that even first-timers with an M700 are no match for experienced players and really pose little risk. We have many ex-CF who play and they have no issues with the risk of getting a bloody stinger in the face. Airsoft has inherent risks to it, like a bleeding welt or a lost tooth. You simply can't remove all risks and those will remain no matter how low your FPS limits are. Hockey by comparison is far more dangerous with actual serious injury and death (I know I injured many people with my hard hitting style), but nobody stops a game they love because of a little risk. I think that FPS rules are a matter for local clubs with their own unique needs. Just FYI, the most serious injuries we had (lost teeth and facial bleeders) were caused by stock Marui guns and not the upgraded ones. We also have no mercy rules. If you're dumb or clueless enough (or the other guy has super-ninja skills) you deserve a point-blank shot in the back. It only stings for a minute but reminds to wake up out there.

Hey.
Only posting here because i have some experience with HIGH fps limits. I also agree with philstructo on ROE and minimum engagement distances with higher Pfs rifle but below 450 or so it is not needed. Where i play here in hawaii with the National Gaurd Units we have a Full-auto fps limit of 420 and Semi-auto and Bolt-action limit of 500 on .20 bbs. We use the Full-auto weapons in various CQB arrangements on our field, set up like a MOUT training area. The faster the bbs the more realistic the game gets. There are also public fields on island that have no fps limits. I play alot and i have been shot by a modified G-spec shooting 720 fps with a .20 bb. I was hit from about 20 Yards with .30 bb. It hurt yes. But there is nothing wrong with playing at these limits. The pain just reinforces the need to stay alive Really nothing to be affraid of. Just FYI Not everyone here plays those high limits, we have Cqb arenas with 350 fps all the way up to our outdoor fields with no FPS. D |

Philstructo is 16, if his profile is not a lie. So if he plays (or wants to play) with 500fps guns, or any gun, in Nanaimo... maybe the locals over there should have a chat with his legal guardians?
KHS-Delta, rules in different countries do not apply here. |

I would go crazy if the fps rules were 300 for outdoor like some places in Canada. We have lots of guys shooting 400 with AEG's and 550 with bolt action. It makes the game better when you have the range for longer shots. I agree with mcguyver-every club should figure out what works best for them.

Well, you have to consider, games at FR and Wasaga use the 400AEG/450BA rules mostly due to insurance issue the paintball field has with their respective insurance agent, much like we have to use paintball approved goggles/mask when we play at those field.
As for private fields, the rules are drafted according to the owners' and organizers' wishes. Hence the reason why we can use sealed ballistic goggles like Bolles and ESS in addition to paintball goggles/mask. Some organizers will push the limit up to 425fps/475fps. Brian, who run TTAC3, also runs an outdoor field, he allows BA to use even higher FPS if you qualified in his sniper course. But yeah, you also have to considered that there are a lot of new players popping out in Ontario who might or might not be able to determine "safe engagement distance". In other cities, since it's a smaller crowd, it's much easier to teach a few new ones about it, but it's harder to do in bigger games. |

Not likely to happen. The local club there leaves a lot to be desired.

As far as i know Philstructo has not played with us, and at this rate i doubt he will. There are fps limits in place for a reason. Before you post, at least know what the fuck you are talking about.

You are correct... I was just making a general statement as a 9mm travels at roughly 1,100fps. Granted there are many other variables involved, but regardless any projecticle hitting someone at nearly that rate of speed is simply dangerous... be it a FMJ 9mm or a .20g BB! Cheers, KaOz.

The .20 gram bb will lose velocity a LOT faster once it leaves the barrel due to air resistance and much lighter weight. You comparison is not really accurate. Stating a 124-gr 9mm round travelling at 500 fps is the same as a .2 gram bb travelling at 500 fps is like saying getting hit by a "hot wheels" car going 30 KM/h is the same as getting hit by a real car 2500 lb car doing the same speed. It's not in the same ballpark....hell, it's not even the same sport. Additionally, the reason that some of the indoor fields have a 350 fps indoor limit is because many of the more recent guns produced (and used as rentals by indoor fields) hit 350 fps in their stock form - Classic Army's line of full metal guns, for example, are all 330-350 fps out of the box. A field owner is likely not going to invest $50K in guns and then strip them all down to install new/softer springs.
