STAR MP7A1 Mags

Just got a box of STAR mags for TM MP7A1 and I must say I'm slightly disappointed. I wasn't expecting TM quality but I can't believe there is such a difference from TM to STAR. The mags don't chamber properly so that you have to fire a few times before anything comes out. When it does, two or three BB's prctically come rolling out of the barrel. It's funny, but a real pain. Close examination revelaled that they don't even hold 20 rnds! Maybe, 17.

I'm stuck with them so I was wondering if anyone knows if shortening the mag spring a little will allow the full 20 rnds in.

if they feed wrong, lube them up.
The Star M16 mags dont hold 30 as advertised...but we live with it.

But considering you get a box of star mags for little over the price of a single TM mag...I fail to see how you expect to get the same quality.

Yeah the STAR m16 mags actually hold 33-34 so you can get a reliable 30 shots out and lose those 3-4 BB's at mag change.

Great idea they had.

But what he said. Put a little lube in the mag and you will get your 20 shots and should feed much better.

You need to work the mags in to get the capacity up. Some STAR M16 mags have been said to hold up to 36 rounds when they are broken in, new they hold 25-28 tops in my experience (22 STAR realcaps...) You could try filling them as far as they will go and letting them sit for a few days, empty them and fill them a few dozen times after that and see if the capacity goes up.

If you read carefuly, you'll note I WASN'T expecting the same quality. I'm relatively new to airsoft so I was simply trying to find a way to fix my problem and learn about the peculiarities of the sport. I've always shot real steel where "around" XX capacity mags simply doesn't cut it.

Thank you all for the great tips!

Heh, if you think STAR M16 mags are bad, try the G3 realcaps! Sixteen shots anyone?

the Star MP7A! 50rd Mags seem to work pretty good.. They chamber fine, its just getting them worked in as they seem to be not as smooth going in as the original mag that comes with the MP7A1. They even hold 50rds like they are suposed too.. just gotta sit there putting them in, taking them out.. over and over.. and they get easier.. hey.. kinda like your momma.. joke..

I'm still wondering why they insist on making the mags in grey.

Pretty much the only guns that the color comes even close to is the finish on ICS M-series guns. Don't know why they wouldn't just make them in black instead.

I bought a box of Star 50-rounders for the MP7 and after some initial teething problems where the follower would get hung up, they work flawlessly now. Lots of lube was required, but they're working.

I love my star mags for my m4, way more reliable than the TM mags (in a G and P metal body)
although I am using a 11.1 lithium, and it sure does empty that mag really fast
