Question from some interested newbies
Well, I met someone not too long ago that had an airsoft gun, and since his basement is HUGE he let us try shooting at some paper targets he had. After we all put on proper safety goggles, we tried it out and me and my friend were instantly mesmerized... Now we were thinking the other day of purchasing airsoft guns... But unfortunatley we are not 18 we are both 15. Now I read the current Canadian laws and from my understanding you obviously cannot just go around in your backyard shooting at people, you have to go to a designated spot because you're asking for trouble otherwise! But do you have to be 18 to use airsoft guns? And if you don't have to be 18, are people younger than 18 accepted in games (not made fun of)? If I were to participate in a game it would probably be at FlagRaiders. Thanks ahead of time! By the way, I had been interested before (hand't shot one before either) but I thought that 13 was too young so I decided to forget airsoft for a while.

Might want to read the FAQ before asking anymore question.
Short answer is no. If you're under 18, someone has to be supervising you when you use airsoft, and for sure it won't be one of us. As for games, it depends on the host, some only allow 18+, some alow 16+ with parental consent, but this also depends on the field owner for insurance purposes. So yeah, unless you can get your parents into airsoft, it's not going to work. Just wait out a few more years, there are better ways to spend $1000 when you're 15. ($1000 is the approx cost to buy a basic airsoft gun along with BBs, Batteries, Charger, extra mags, some type of BDU, goggles, and other standard gears. |

My parents don't have a problem with it, but I guess waiting another 2-3 years is probably the best way to enjoy the sport.

If you want to play, you need them to be physically there with you at the game on-field. But yeah, spend 2-3 yrs to save up and enjoy other things that teenagers do in the mean time. |

Is there anything I should do within this time other than save money? (Keep a close eye on laws? on FAQ?)

Learn as much as you can, and spend the next 2 to 3 years trying to find a Girlfriend who wont mind you spending your weekends away from her or one who will play with you. Otherwise you and your guns will be womanless for years to come. That one good thing to do with the time while waiting.

Okay. Done? Now, whatever the number you came out with? You'll need more. Serious. Airsoft always goes over budget, when you start buying gear and accessories and accessories for your gear and new BDUs and new gear to match your new BDUs and new accessories for that etc. Some people are gonna say "but you don't need all that stuff to play blah blah blah..." and to that i say bollocks! You may not NEED it per se, but when you're stading around in your ripped and stained ODs and $30 Brass Eagle paintball goggles from Canadian Tire, looking like some second rate impression of Che Guevera, and everyone around you has got their MarPat and Multicam on with matching body armor, MOLLE pouches, low profile ballistic goggles/glasses, done up gun, full metal sidearm and 5w UHF radios, looking like real world operators... you most likely WILL wish you did have a shitload more money. So yeah, save up. Worst case, you'll have money to buy a car to get to games.

Don't listen to them!
Forget about women and learn discipline. Women are a huge financial burden! All the money you'll spend on women who'll end up leaving you, that's all money you could have used to upgrade from a cheap HK knockoff plate carrier to a real deal Eagle one! Women always end up leaving, but GOOD GEAR STAYS WITH YOU FOREVER! </psychotic episode>

get a woman and then worry about getting a gun. i made a deal with my gf that she lets me airsoft and i drop the idea of getting into real steel. also as has been said before save up and when you think you have enough to get your basics, save more. i know i thought i would be okay after just getting my basics and within a month i was buying more gear and more guns....
