Star M249 help please

Hello people

I just got my M249 Para from Grim and the thing is not firing at all. Here is a breakdown of what I tried so far :

- Battery is a 9.6v that has been fully charged.
- As soon as I got the gun I checked the connectors on the boxmag and they needed reseating.
- The boxmag itself is winding.
- If I take the gearbox out and plug the battery to it directly, it will fire just fine.
- If I leave the gearbox out of the body but plugged normally nothing at all happens.
- When I have everything in place normally I can feel the motor just jerking a little but not moving at all.

Anyway if no one can help me here I'll take this gun to a good friend but I hoped someone here could have a solution for me.

It's something I hadn't tried and now I just tried it and it's not doing anything different, sadly.

Have you tried swapping out the motor? The stock L85 motors are notoriously bad....I can't see the 249 being different as they were released at the same time.

I know you have reseated the connections you mentioined that. I had a problem with mine. And what had happened was a wiring to the connector was off. Its not soldered to those contacts or anything.

The part you plug into the fake magwell was the part I had to take apart. It had 4 phillips screws in it. Wasn't a bit deal to take the cover off and see that there was no connection.

Have you tried testing those two big connections to ensure there is actually power coming from the box mag? You just need a little light or a tester or something. Or even try arcing it I suppose you could do to see if you have spark.

I didn't test mine but when I took the cover off I could see the wire was no where near the place it was supposed to be. heh

Maybe this is your problem.

I took the cover off and the wires were in place, I even used a screwdriver to see if there was power since I couldn't find a tester and there is power. As I said the motor is fine since it is shooting when I plug the battery directly to the gearbox.

I'm guessing the problem is somewhere with the wires that goes from the magwell to the gearbox.

i had the same problem with mine (first the connectors were unseated, then the wire came out of the connectors every time i put it back together) so i just bypassed the whole damn thing. i put in a longer wire from the mechbox and just pulled that thru the feed hole into the box mag. seems to cycle the mechbox just fine now.

Yeah you tried putting power right to the contacts in the magwell and pulling the trigger. You may need a third hand or somebody to hold the trigger while to put the wires to the contacts.
If you got nothing then you know you knows its between there and the motor. But if it works that means its still just a problem with those 4 contact points meeting.

It was in fact a problem with those 4 contacts. I went to my friend's place who got better tools than I do and it turns out that 2 of the wires in the contacts mysteriously traded places. I thought STAR inspected all of their guns but who knows.

Thanks to anyone who tried to help, this case is now solved.
