Edit, I had made a severe mistake on the maker. Nevertheless it does not change my impression

First impressions. (Note that this is based on a quarter century of experience with real Colt firearms, including gunsmithing them).

Just got it, unfired, new in box, from DEA (thanks Randy, excellent service). Dont plan to fire it anytime soon, so dont expect a review on that.

As compared to the real thing:
Weight: so close to the same it's a moot point.
Finish: Looks like a phosphate finish, or a sandblasted finish. Nice and matte, and I prefer that.
Sights: metal 3-dot, fixed.
Frame and slide: all metal.
Controls, grip safety, etc: all work as they should. Ambidextrous safety is a neat bonus. Hammer does have a half-cock safety feature, and that is a detail I did not expect.
Trigger pull: reasonably crisp. Trigger is skeletonized type. Hammer is rounded.
Frame: is grooved under the barrel to allow attachments.
Markings: Caliber and model name are on par. I prefer no markings at all, but that's not important.

Frame fit: Actually tighter than a real Colt. Barrel seems a tad loose, but I'm used to National Match Colts. Compared to a military grade Colt, it's equal. Research is in order next time I talk to my sources for parts that should fit...

Takedown: identical to a real Colt. Removing the slide exposes the adjustable hopup wheel. And that too is a nice touch.

This is the first WE Airsoft gun I own, and now I agree they are an excellent deal.

To anyone else who went with the deal from DEA, I assure you that you're going to really enjoy this gun.

Greylocks, do you mean the WEI tech Baby Hi-Capa? Or does Western Arms (WA) have one as well?

Western Arms? What order were you on? Wei-Etech (WE) is the company that makes the baby hi-capa 3.8, not Western Arms. Anyways.. Here's a little blurb I posted on another forum about the gun:

So, I finally got the gun out to shoot, first impressions, not bad at all! The power is decent considering I was shooting outdoors at -7c on propane. Accuracy is good and the hopup is enough to send the shots accurate enough to hit a man size person maybe 100feet away, but not much further.. I will try to test this again and give some better results. I got around 15-20 shots off before running out of gas, and this was like I said.. 7 below zero degrees celcious.

The kickback is nice, better then my KJW m9 and elite 1a, but not quite as good as my KSC Glock 19 with metal slide, barrel and guarder recoil kit. I would say its a heavy kick back, but a bit sluggish.. not sluggish as to prevent some rapid fire or double taps, just notably slower then my glock is. Atleast its faster, and harder then my KJW's.

Build quality is very nice, except for a couple small things. On the pre-order I was in, some of the guns had grip safteys that didn't work, I don't know if this is due to a bad leaf spring or what, because mine works and I haven't opened one that doesn't work. The only thing about MINE that I don't like is that the right side saftey (if you are looking down the gun) is loose and sloppy. It connects to the safety on the left side through what I would describe as a triangular allen key thing and as a result of not-so-amazing moulding.. its not an amazing fit and it will be sloppy. I have confirmed this with a couple other 3.8 owners that were in on the same order as me, all of them have a simular problem.

I also found the mags to have a sloppy fit in the magwell, simular to say.. my KJW m9.. I prefer a solid fitting mag, maybe because i know and assured that I am getting a good gas seal, but so far so good. The gun fires nice, kicks nice and works good despite me shooting outdoors in this Canadian winter. Tonight I hope to try it out indoors, around 20 degree C, should give me some better results.

Overall conclusion: For the 200$ price tag on this gun, its a damn fine little gun. Solid metal, its very heavy and hefty feels very durable and shoots just great. The hop up is nice and level on .2g and I was hitting a tree in my lot consistintly around 70 feet away. I am impressed with this little WE gun and would highly recommend it to someone looking for a cheap, full metal 1911 custom.

It's WE, that's what DEA was ordering... really should have clued in there with a full metal body for a mere $200(?).

A necropost, but I feel that this isn’t worth a new thread. I’ve been focusing my efforts on the HFC M190, for now.
This is the WE Hi-Capa Type 10, by the way. Please refer to the M190 review for pictures (http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...t=26630&page=1 – scroll down).

Sights are great. A bit ugly, in my opinion, but still great. There’s a white dot in the center of each one.
Everything, save the grips, are metal.
Finish- Great. However, paint seems to rub off a bit in the holster. This isn’t very noticeable, and it’s my ancient, rough WWII-era holster’s fault.
Trademarks- ‘Baby Hi-Capa?’. I hate that, to tell you the truth, but to my relief it wasn’t engraved- simply painted. ‘Cal .45 ACP’ was painted on the other side, and ‘Cal .45’ was on the ejection port (engraved). Sweeet.
Takedown- Greylocks had to help me a bit on this one, I’m not the best with these. However, it was identical to the real-steel.
Ajustable Hop-Up too, for that matter.
Grip safety works great, so does the regular safety. This didn’t have the moulding problems the other guy had, and is a great fit.
Final impressions- amazing. I haven’t gotten to fire it, yet, the propane adaptor arrives in a few days.
My only put-off is the fact you cannot modify it for left-handed use, the grips don’t allow for that and the notch is in only one side of the magazine. If I’m wrong about that, feel free to correct me- I just can’t see how it could be converted, and I really don’t want to take the grips off.

As a leftie I've learned to adapt to using my middle finger for the mag release. As long as there's an ambi-safe, I'm good to go.

It's actually an advantage if you're a leftie. The mag release is less likely to brush up against your body, and thus preventing an accidental release of your mag (and at fifty-sixty bucks a piece, you should care ).
