Metal Receiver Chipped.

Hello there,

I have a King Arms M4A1 with Colt trades, full metal receiver... And unfortunately it got chipped, right at the front pin. Doesn't seem to be effecting the workings of front pin (still holding it together) but I was wondering if there's any way of repairing it.

brazing would be your best bet. You can glue the chunk back on, but no form of glue is ever going to get it back to being structural in strength.

You can use metal epoxy paste and build it up again. Then grind it to shape once it's cured. We repair antique cylinder heads with that stuff..as long as the host metal is clean and prepped, it should work.

Alrighty, will look into that. I don't have the piece that's chipped off (got it back from repair work like it is). Its a small chip, so the epoxy will likely work well enough.

That's not too bad, assuming that the metal is reasonable high grade and you don't see any stress cracks going through the pin hole. The next major drop or torque put on the receiver could finish it off though. The takedown and pivot pin holes are the weak spots on any receiver. There isn't a whole lot that can be done to reinforce it structurally, so I'd recommend using it until it breaks. You never know, might go for years like that.

Alrighty, thanks for your input! Assuming it won't break as it is, I may try to fill it with something to reduce eye soreness :P because I'm picky like that haha
