Montreal....my old home town...what's not to like?
 Have you checked out Taktik Airsoft? I haven't dealt with these guys, but 180 bucks for a Well VSR10 sounds like a good start...and you can't beat that they're local if you have issues. As you can probably tell, it's had a whole pile of work done it to it now, and to be honest, a bolt gun doesn't really turn on until you make it your own... I just opened the triggerbox and the sear is completely fucked up... I'm gonna change it and sell this piece of shit... I don't think i'm gonna buy another ARES

Just a thought about bolt guns...a lot of people tend to go the way of the heavy spring but in fact, if the compression parts are efficient enough, you can actually get away with a light enough spring that the factory sears won't break. My L96 is still running the stock sears after two years and thousands of BB's. Still perfect...but the spring is really light and the rifle still fires 476fps. The compression end (hop up, etc) is very efficient with ne appreciable loss which not only results in less spring effort, but also shot after shot consistency.
One thing I can say is that so far, just about every stock rifle I've come across is a long, long way from being optimal...but can be. |

I'm thinking of buying a vsr-10 (clone or not) But I don't know what to buy as upgrades, the only thing I know is that PDI is great. I know that I need to change the bucking and maybe the hop-up

Some may say different, but personal experience on bolt guns has led me to start with air seal and accuracy first. You can't go wrong with PDI, but if you feel like experimenting, you can and still get great results. For example, in my L96 I have a CNC brass hop up which enables me to use an aeg barrel instead of the traditional L96 barrel. That hop up has a near perfect airseal and now I'm running an R hop in the rifle as well. Ridiculous range and accuracy!!
Another thing is barrel spacers. These keep the inner barrel steady under firing load and stabilize the whole barrel/hop assembly. Helps a lot with accuracy. In other words,I did all the accuracy parts first, then adjusted my spring/cylinder to match. That way I was able to really tune my fps to the barrel and again, get better accuracy and range. So if I was building a VSR-10 today, I'd start with barrel/hop/chamber/spacers and see where I sit after that...then work on the cylinder and spring. Who knows, you may be able to drop the spring tension enough that it's super easy to pull the bolt and not have to worry about the sear. |
