WE AK selector lever

I've got a WE AK PMC, which I love. However, one of the new "innovations" is the selection lever. It has a slot for holding back the bolt, as well as an extra notch for easier fire-mode selection by right-handed shooters. The problem is that I am a lefty, and when I sling my rifle the right side of the rifle (which has the bolt and selector) is against my chest, which causes it to switch firing modes at the slightest movement.

My question is can I switch to the more simple, tradition Ak selection levers, and if so, which are available? The most abundant Ak parts are from CYMA, and I wondering if those are compatible or proprietary.

Alternatively, maybe there are some lefties out there that can offer some advise as to how to wield the AK differently so that the selector is not accidentally switched.

Is there a way to tighten up the tension on the selector? It seems like you'll have the same problem with any other selector.

Lefty here, I had the WE PMC AK and never had that issue at all during any games I fielded the gun.

How stiff is the lever when you move it between safe, semi and full auto. Mine was nice and solid, there was a very positive lock every time I was moved into position.

Also are you using a 1 point or 2 point sling? I used a 2 point but could understand the fire selector moving if you're using a 1 point.

The way the WE is designed is garbage. You can install a new selector from a CYMA, etc, but it doesn't screw in like an AEG. It has a small center piece and an allen screw on the inside to attach it to the selector paddle internally. Absolute trash. Why can't they make one that installs like the real steel?

lefty here, I had the same problem and shot my feet when I went to reach for the gun and grabbed inside the trigger guard.

I am contemplating hacking the tab right off and seeing how that goes.

I installed the Hephaestus steel trigger set and it allowed me to torque the little grub screw down alot, the more I did the tighter the selector lever got.

I don't know if it is unique to my setup but it seemed to do the trick

remove the selector, put a small o-ring around the stem to which it attaches and push it down to the receiver. when you reattach the selector the o-ring will act as a spacer and make it harder to accidentally change settings. mine was so loose it would change while firing :O

I run a 3-point sling, and I alternate between using it both as a 1-point and 2-point setup depending on how frequently I use the rifle. The problem persists with both methods. And the selector is very loose, to the point where I always have to keep my off hand on it or it'll switch firing modes.

Tightening it might help, but I feel the weight of the gun will still cause it to switch modes while slung, because of the protruding notch. I don't want to get a new trigger set until my stuff breaks.

I'm thinking if I change up to the standard one, it will have less parts that stick out and this can be less of a problem.

you could pay money and custom fit something that is not meant to fit or you can dremel the little tab off. I'm going with option 2

I dremeled and filed my selector to make it left hand friendly, overall cost: $0
Although I would prefer the original AK74 selector plate with no cutout or piece of metal that jabs me in the stomach I am pleased with the results.

How did you remove the selector switch?

There is a little grub screw on the inside holding the selector lever.
