I would actually reccomend getting a dual band (UHV/VHF) radio.
Transmitting on any freq that is not FRS is a no no, but access to the VHF band will allow you to listen to the NOAA Weather broadcasts. This is a nifty thing to have when your out camping, especially when the difference in price between the 888 and the 888D is nothing. If you have your amateur radio licence you will be able to transmit on the VHF bands as well, now you don't have to buy another radio :P
