Hey guys. So I'm relatively new to airsoft and I've been running with a co2 usp and a UTG trishot shotgun, which are great starting weapons but I think it's time for my first AEG.

I was looking into the MP5 and ideally that is the gun I would like. I looked into CYMA and Tokyo Marui, they seem to make the best quality ones that are within my price range of around 150-300 dollars. The problem is, both of these guns seem to be cheap quality and I don't know if it's worth getting either or if I should just invest my interest to a different gun altogether. If anyone has either of those brand guns please tell me more about them and let me know if I should fork the cash to pick one up. Or, even better, if you can recommend another brand that I may have overlooked with better quality. I'm a little hesitant to pick up my first AEG as everyone I know that has bought their first gun has had very costly problems with them. I realize I don't have -that- high of a budget, but I also don't want a gun that will blow up in my face as soon as I bring it into a game.

More specifically I'm looking for an MP5A5, but the parts can usually be interchanged and or upgraded so the specifics don't matter to me as much. I would also preferred if it was full metal with electric blow back, but those are optional. Please help. Alternatively, if there are any other guns of generally higher quality I would like to look into them as well.

1. Collapsible stock MP5's can only take a battery in the foregrip. Used to be those were only 8.4v mini batteries...which aren't great for lasting and shooting all day. Now there are LiPo's that will fit...but you need a good smart charger. Budget for that.

2. Full stock MP5's can take any battery in the stock...and a large 8.4v battery will last all day and then some. Get a good charger though and quality battery.

3. Consider Classic Army. Their builds are very good...metal body, plastic grip, etc... The "quick take down" is really nice for when you need to work on the mechbox (which you will have to do sometime down the road).

4. Forget electric blow back. It's a bit gimmicky and only one or two models have pulled it off well (neither are MP5's). With some (like the G&G Blowback) they take proprietary parts so making the eventual repairs and upgrades can be an issue.

5. Get the look that you want right off the bat. Upgrading a stock/forend/etc...later is more expensive than just buying that way right off the hop.

6. You can't usually turn a non-SD model into a SD, etc...the front ends are different.

pretty much m102404 says....I originally wanted a mp5 as my first weapon so I did some research

1. Full stock can hold bigger battery and don't have to worry about any play from a retractable stock which came up a lot but probably only applicable to the older gens

2. Classic Army, Classic Army, came to this conclusion again and again

3. EBB is disabled ASAP to make it last longer

Thank you, this has been really helpful. I guess I'll need to know more specifics such as what's a good battery to get, type of gearbox, etc.

It looks like Classic Army is the way to go. These guns are a little pricier than I would have liked, but I would rather get a better quality product.

I've looked at the MP5A2, as per suggestion with a full stock to make more room for different battery types. Off the bat, I've noticed the lower receiver does not have the traditional MP5 look. That is a minor aesthetic difference, but moreover the pistol grip looks like it has thumb groves on the left side. I am left handed and that design looks like it would be uncomfortable.

Also, where would you suggest to pick this up? Seems like Toronto Airsoft is only retailer that has them, and I would prefer not to do business with them due to some problems my friends have had buying guns from them in the past.

Looks like they don't come with a battery included. It's a little steep for me.

Maybe I'm better off with a different starting AEG.

If you're staying with nimh, I like intellect batteries. But your battery is only as good as the charger you use. I don't see aegs coming with batteries as a positive. Only 1 person out of 5 I know is still running the battery that came with their gun, 4 others have had them die, mine went after 3 games, the other 3 within 2 games. Either due to poor cell quality or the crappy wall charger killing the cells.

Ask the question again in the age verified section, I don't think anyone will tell you in the open. Also stay away from CA sportline guns, but just with a quick check TAS might be your only option. At least they are close enough to you that you can go to the store and not be jerked around. I know a few guys that have had terrible service online as well.

Keep your eyes open for a Classic Army B&T MP5 if you want one. Worth the wait.
The full-metal G&Gs (also sub-contracted by Umarex; same gun) are pretty nice too. They take down easily and have a functioning bolt-pull for access to the hopup which is an attractive feature imo.

G&G motors are pretty underwhelming and if the trigger block or wiring harness gets worn out you HAVE to find a G&G replacement to avoid a lot of pissing around, but overall they're great MP5s if you can find one at a decent price.

for hard to get trigger contacts, it's more than worth it to install a simple mosfet.

I recommend the JG MP5 RIS. for 200$ you get a full stock (I had to spend 70$ on the getting the stock and re wiring it for my MP5. before that I couldnt fit anything but nunchucks and it was a bitch to put it) so get a full stock. the RIS is also usefull. grips flashlights ect. maybe you don't like the modern MP5 look, then get a CYMA Mp5SD. has blowback, which is nice. but thats just more stuff that can break and wears out your piston. By the way, don't get the ICS MX5 pro. I love my ICS MX5 pro, but I had to put A LOT of money to get it skirmishable. so don't. People are recommending the Classic army one. thats another good idea.
