As he pointed out many times already the retailer he recomends to buy from sells them with the hopup already modded for you.

Besides, I ran a PTW for 2 full seasons and 70,000 rounds on a stock hop-up. Their range advantage over other AEGs was known even then. Modifying the hop-up was done by only a handful of people globally, and PTWs in Canada are sold and used with unmodified hop-ups all the time. It is an option. If you want even better performance, it is your choice to do so. The gun will function without the mod.

I've worked on and built several GBBRs...different makes/builds/repairs. Lots of time in fiddling with some systems...light "orientation" work on others. I've worked on a few PTWs...and built/rebuilt a couple...nothing to a Tackleberry/McGuyver level of competency, but I feel that I know what I'm doing. Over the years I have owned/used dozens of AEGs...I have the funds available (and the wherewithal to come up with the funds if I want something) to get anything I want. My selection criteria for what I keep is: 1. Function 2. Appeal/allure After all that, what I've ended up with and can summarize is: 1. PTW...CQBR length. Once it is working reliably/consistently, it is a solid, excellent performer. Due to it's design, it lends itself to being "modular" for different setups (i.e. low FPS CQB, high FPS field usage, long DMR styling, etc...) 2. King Arms Galil...solid, reliable V3 mechbox appeal. Interesting styling/asthetics. Very good out of the box performance. It's a fun "hmmm, think I'll try something different today" gun. 3. WE M4 and WE PDW GBBR. It's a different system. It has it's pros and cons. It's not a world beater and the be all, end all. But it works well enough and hands down it is just plain too fun to use. It is also a very effective muscle memory/training tool. When I go to a serious game the PTW and one of the GBBRs go....if it's a fun gun/casual game and I feel like a change up it'll usually be the Galil/GBBR. Guys easily hit $1400 with upgrading/modding a good AEG...the last PTW package I saw picked up was (used...but still in great shape) $1400 for the rifle and two handfulls of mags. The in-gun cost is moot...being able to afford it is simply a matter of budgeting. Re. range...it's a bit of draw from one perspective. The PTW is a better mechanical system/design...but needs some tweaks to get the most out of it. An AEG can be made to shoot as far/well...with more work and with luck (or more work taking things apart and reassembling over and over). Which is easier to work on?...the PTW hopup hands down. Your time/effort might not be worth anything...but I value mine. Re. rain/moisture...I'm ALWAYS nervous about using my PTW in the rain, but I won't stop and change out guns because I'm there to play not coddle anything. I've NEVER had my PTW quit (although in the very first downpour with it I lost semi and would only shoot full auto). I've since waterproofed my boards and it's never failed...humid/drizzle/downpour/etc... Re. reliability...I've never actually had a gun go down in game...regardless of type/system. (I will hedge that by saying...I've never had a production ready gun go down....I've blown up experimental stuff in game several times ). The vast majority of guns that I've seen go down at games are AEGs...usually stripped pistons or gears. I've seen a few PTWs retired in game...due to electronics...but those were mostly the older 2007 models. Last edited by m102404; November 16th, 2011 at 15:02.. |

I really think this thread is past it prime.
Overall if I have to pick a single post best describe things, I would go with Tys Having own PTW, AEG, and GBBR (Daytonagun, WA, WE, KJW) I know the pro and cons and I would have to agree with Tys AEG biggest point is repair and replacement are easily available PTW biggest point is OOTB a lot finer tune AEG (better trigger response, better consistency, better range, better grouping) Daytonagun GBBR biggest point is the more realistic than AEG/PTW external air tank, and no need for expensive GBB mag WE/WA/KJW GBBR biggest point is being the closest to shooting real steel. Reliability is disputable, none of the gun OOTB is 100% reliable, some thing is gonna need upgrade PTW: Hop up mod, motor mod WE/WA GBBR: Steel Moving parts KJW/Daytonagun: Hop-up mod |

They're freaking cool, and incredibly long range with high accuracy when they're working, but you spend a lot of time fixing, spending money on, and cursing at GBBRs lol |
