aiming
I realized something strange my last couple games that I've had my pistol... I'm right handed, I shoot right... when I shoulder a rifle, I'm comfortable using my right eye for the sights....
I'm also fairly ambidextrous so I can switch shoulders and shoot lefty with the left eye, but it's not as comfortable. When I aim a pistol whether one handed or two handed with the right hand, I always sight with the left eye.... It's so automatic that I have actually had to catch and stop myself and resight with the right eye sometimes. Anyone else find that odd? |

It's know as being cross eye dominant.
Shooting pistol that way used to be called the Quell stance. I do it and I like it. Both eyes open is where it's at. I've never had a issue transitioning between rifle and pistol.

Are you looking down your rifle sights with both eyes open? If so, which side has the better sight picture?
like Danke said, you are probably cross eye dominant, like me. I'm right-handed, I shoot my pistols righty BUT I'll shoot my rifles southpaw, just to be comfortable with both eyes open down the irons. |

I am like that also, I have no issue shooting the rifle with the eye on the side of the trigger hand. But on pistol I am always using left eye...

I use both eyes open when shooting rifle as well as pistol, not sure if I wink or anything before hand to clear the picture to set one eye up or not, but I've aimed at something both eyes open with one eye and consciously switched to the other eye so I see the side of the gun rather than down the sights and back again.
With the iron sights I have to close an eye. |

Learn to use iron sights with both eyes open. Is just a 'software' adjustment done in your brain, being used to RDS helps too.
Do you angle your pistol enough to hold it with your right hand but sight with your left eye? When I am shooting pistol around a corner using my left hand, I cant it like it's done with the Center Axis Relock method, stand semi-sideways and hold the rear or front sight (far and near respectively) at the same distance you hold a book to read at (natural focal point distance) and use my right eye for aiming, is pretty easy and intuative that way, very easy to learn, I actually came across myself doing it during CQB game by accident, that's how well it works. I have pretty bad eyesight, my right is better than my left I think, but how I end up doing it seems to work for me. It was an interesting observation and I was wondering if I was just odd.

Cross eye dominant eh? That's the way I've always shot, but I didn't know there was a term for it. Now I know...
