BHI Serpa Holster opinions

What are you opinions on the the BlackHawk Serpa CQC holster on a BHI thigh rig compare to the Serpa tactical level 2 holster? Is it worth the roughly $25 extra? I'm on a budget, and I'm a southpaw (lefty), so the cheaper ACM replicas won't work for me.

please comment, and help me.

The CQC holster is open along much of the slide. The Level 2 is not.

Depends how much you like that pistol and if running through the bush with 1/2 or better of your slide taking the brunt of impacts with objects as your leg brushes against them.

If you want a SERPA, get the right one for the job.

Buy the SERPA if you want. I've used one for years, and only sold the last one recently when the gun went. They work perferctly fine.

Dude if Sarfariland ($120) cost the same as Serpa ($50) I'm pretty sure more people will jump of Sarfariland.

The only Holsters that are really by the people around me love there's, but being the only southpaw limits my selection in replica (affordable) stuff, and the Safariland hostlers aren't tacticool enough for me.

So, to recap, the only difference between the level 2 and the CQC is how much of the pistol is covered?

I have been using my Serpa (CQC on thigh rig) since I started airsoft with three different pistols (glock 17, HK USP, and 1911 M.E.U.), and I have put them through more abuse than any other piece of gear I own. After games I have pulled the pistol out and the gun is caked with dirt, and so is the holster itself, but I have never had any problem with drawing the weapon. Granted it does take a little bit of practice to draw because of the button, but I find that pushing the button directly and then pulling the pistol out, works way better than the trigger finger drag technique (for me anyway). I naturally have my trigger finger above the trigger guard after the pistol clears the holster anyway, and i am not thinking about it. My advice is to try one out and compare it to say a safariland 6004 with hood. I have tried both and I perfer to be able to drop my pistol into the holster and know its locked as soon as its in there, and not find out that I forgot to close the hood and the pistol is lost in the thick.

Personal prefernce after trying out different holsters.

Edit: The real Serpa holsters are worth the money trust me. Would you rather pay 20 bucks and get a cheap serpa knock off, and then lose your 300 $+ pistol because of the cheap materials that its made with breaks? Put some money aside and get the real thing, and look around for the best deals. Ellwood epps up my way sells the holster for 50$ and the thigh rig (make sure you get the one thats actually meant to mount the holster and not pouches) for another 50$. The holster itself comes with a belt and paddle mount so you can use it right away until you have saved another 50 - 70 $ to get the thigh rig. Just my two cents

That's exactly what my friends have said about the Serpa (...I perfer to be able to drop my pistol into the holster and know its locked as soon as its in there...). Being a lefty it's hard to find other that might have these holsters and I can't get cheap ACM BlakHawk holster anyways because of it.

I've crawled through brush, sand and gravel roads and never had an issue with my serpa. You can mount the same holster on many different bases depending on your rig and mission. It's extremely fast to draw, even faster to put it away securely and much lighter and lower profile than Safariland. And at half the price it's a no brainer. IMO you just can't beat the versatility and efficiency of this holster.

What you want is a level 2 Serpa holster. Don't bother with the level 3 you won't need it and you'll lose your pistol if you cheap out on the level 1. From there decide if you want a CQC style or a duty style. Note that the duty style offers more protection for your pistol but also costs more.

Don't worry about the drop leg mount right now. They may "look cool" but they're cumbersome and ineffective, but thats another subject. Just get the holster with the belt mount you can get the drop leg when you save up a bit later. There are knock off drop legs out there, not sure if they're compatible.

I'm personally not a fan of any mechanical retention holster at all. If there are moving parts, there is chance for failure. Period.

Some designs are a bit better at clearing (or preventing) obstructions than others. I won't get in to that debate - I'll leave it up to you to decide. But for what it's worth, I've personally decided to go with Safariland SLS for my drop leg thigh rigs, despite my concerns about mechanical holsters...

Hey I am a lefty too and has gone through the same search for the holster that fit my play style. I have used both real steel Serpa and Sarfariland holsters. I have to say from my own experience is that the Sarfariland modded to high thigh with one leg strap is the best and the one I most prefer out of the two. And now I have moved on with Kydex because now I am into weaponlights and finding the right gun/weaponlight combo is next to impossible.
