APS m4a1 asr101 question.

I searched APS on the forum and found some info, well basically one person loved theirs and the other person went through hell. This will be my first gun I've seen it in person seems really solid/sturdy and have read/watch some positive things about it. My question is, since its a EBB the blow back function is basically a show effect but does the blow back impede performance or make maintenance any different? thx for taking a look.

the blow back does not impede performance whatsoever makes the gun a little louder. as the piston gets drawn back, the cover for the breach moves as well, if you half cycle, the cover will cover only half of the breach. very easy to check and make sure you have the spring decompressed after. the body make is solid. expect to run an 11.1 lipo without doing a complete overhaul on the gearbox. it comes with polycarbonate bushings and no shim job hence the only thing to turn the piston. I am running a 11.1 for over a year now and my teeth on my gears and piston are immaculate.

The gun would not run stock for me with a 8.4V or a 9.6V, only 11.1 lipo. where there was not enough power to turn the gears with the 9.6V Ni-MH it meant the gearbox has enough resistance to keep the revoloutions to a minimum with the lipo which prevents overspin. the overspin is the main culprit for tearing up your piston teeth.

If you did want to run other wise get metal bushings and do a good shim/lube job. Mechbox.com youtube and google are your friends for that.

The stock barrel is 6.08mm which is crap so get a tight bore!!!

In the meanwhile i see you are fairly new so check the faq's forum rules and you should be able to find an age verifier for you area to get in contact with!

Cheers and welcome to ASC

Yeah I found 3 age verifiers near me 3 diff clubs but they all play like 30mins away from where I live. I'm heading out tomorrow to get it done. So getting a tight bore for acc is a deff. So I have to get a lipo for the gun to run proper? Have you tried magpull mags on the gun by any chance? Been trying to figure out if they work with the gun cause I know some guns are picky.

I got one and i my experience was:

Pros:
-full metal
-good weight
-blowback*
-decent fps/range for outdoor
-rof is "okay"
-working bolt catch
-exterior and internal stuff are all standard TM compatible
-new design of anti reversal latch (makes putting the gearbox back together over 9000% easier)

Cons:
-metal body is kinda cheap feeling and not the best. But better than plastic right?
-the blowback mechanism is not designed for prolong use. The 2 screws that hold the "bolt" down gets killed pretty fast. doesnt impede anything while the gun is intact but when you open it it kinda comes off
-some parts MAY require some modding/sanding/spacing to fit perfectly eg: Magpul MIAD grip and after market hop up (i lost mine so replaced with SRC)

Hope this helps with your decision

EDIT: most mags are loose in this gun. I use magpul Pmags and they work flawlessly

That's some good info guys. So since you both own the gun and rep uses a lipo bat to make his gun cycle. Could you get your gone to run off the 8.4v accl? I wasn't planning on using it, was going to upgraded but don't really feel like going lipo right away. Was going to kept the 8.4v as a back up.

You would need solid metal bushings and a shim job. That would make the gears cycle perfectly with an 8.4 or a 9.6. The lipo would be excessive with those improvements causing over spin. I just love the insane rof and quick trigger action. Where lipo's are so hot running though, a replacement of the trigger contacts may be necessary from arcing... although like I said no problems yet and I always have the gun apart to check! A mosfet is also a quick sol'n to that!

I have some of the M4's and the AK74's. The only one I tried out was one of the AK74's (ASK204P.) The 8.4v 1400 MAh battery included with it won't pull the motor. So I also tried the following:

9.6v - Worked fine
7.4v 15C Lipo - worked but was weak
7.4v 20C Lipo - worked fine (just like the 9.6v)

I really like the way they sound, but since I'm in the US, it came with a huge, all orange flash hider! The stock locks nice and tight, but the upper receiver, where the battery is, has a little play when closed. The stock hicap that comes with the gun locked in tight, but I don't have any other AK mags to test with.

I would recommend to get a new motor. The stock motor isn't all that great

And the question about bolt catch....kinda hard to explain but it consists of 5 parts. Three of the parts are on the gearbox; little spring, the locking piece and the screwthat holds it together. You have to bend the spring like an L shape in that nook on the gb. Then screw it together. That's the best I can describe it lol. Then the bolt button on the receiver goes in and make sure the arm will go through the slot of that locking piece screwed onto the gearbox. Lastly just put that bitch pin back in.

I bought some PMAGS because of a feed issue with hi-caps(or so I thought) and the mags are looser than all hell and won't feed properly to save their life(or mine I suppose). Velcro fixed the fit issue ") Just a warning to those with an APS m4 looking for mags.
