The length is and odd one, I could not find it in a 6.03, made by a good brand anyways. I just got a 500mm and covered it with a suppressor.

Or you can go with a PSG-1 which will allow for an even longer barrel. BE WARNED THOUGH - the PSGs mechbox is different than any other, some people say its horrible, but I love it. Very easy to work with, takes 5 mins to change out a spring.

If you do this with a G3 or PSG-1, definitely upgrade your gears, motor, piston, piston head, and cylinder head. Consistency is the key, its harder to get in an AEG, but it is possible with the correct parts.

Does the m14 mechbox make the FPS more consistent or is the hopup design better etc.
The V7 box is a superior box in the sense or durability and reliabiliy. Its quieter inside the stock, can easilly accept a full size battery. Overall, the M14 is just a superior design in terms of an AEG. The hopup system is much better and consistant as well.

I've also been looking into a DMR-type AEG for outdoor games, as I've only got one gun so far and I'm not looking forward to swapping springs every other week to meet FPS requirements. I found a shop that's got an L86 that seems pretty good, and I was wondering about the possibility of using that for long-range fire, just keeping it in semi-auto so I don't splooge BBs all over the place.

And before anyone points it out, yes. I'm asking about using a SAW as a DMR. Yes, I know it sounds retarded. I just like the bullpup layout and think that with the L86's longer barrel, I could get decent medium-long range accuracy out of it.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing the same with covering it with a suppressor as well. Have a tracer unit on it for night games.

What range did you get on that gun? the same specs you got?

You mean the L86a2? The coolest looking dmr I've ever seen was an l86a2 with 20rnd mags and an RIS handguard. They look super-fly. I say go for it.

Tracer Unit will not work with an inner barrel going through it.

it can still work as long as the inner barrel length doesn't go past the sensor. even still, an outer barrel extension can be used...

the only limiting factor in GID BB's are not heavy enough for most 'snipers'. maxing out at .25's kind of sucks when a good rifle is set up to shoot .36 and up.

I heard tell of BB Bastard coming out with "heavy" glow BBs to run with a tracer.

I'd love some for my MP7, it's not great with the light stuff.

G3-SG1 (or is it G3-SG/1? IDK, I don't really care) barrel length is 469 mm. V2 for a winter gun... hmm, even I have concerns for that - though its just people telling me a V2 won't survive the milder winters here in Vancouver. My current box is actually the most reliable one I've had yet, TBH.

M14's hop up seems superior to me... that is, it was when it was shooting. I've got a 20 FPS difference between a TM M14 Socom and a CA/TM bastard G3, M14 shooting with a little more FPS and getting quite a bit more effective range. That being said, I can engage with decent effectiveness out to about 200 ft with the G3. M14 seemed like the BB's it shot were going much further... never got a chance to really test it before it broke down on me *sighs*. V7 box is supposedly really good, or so I've been told. I don't do work on AEG's, so I wouldn't know the specifics, nor have I been around long enough to really figure this stuff out yet.

As to mags, G3 mags are thicker and there are less choices (to waste your money on, lol). G3 full stock can easily accommodate bigger batteries - if you need more space, there are posts that you can easily knock out to create some more space; the M14 hatch into the battery compartment is smaller, though it doesn't matter to me as I'm on lipos.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head that might help? IDK, I'm tired and am totally not thinking straight................

Woo!

Now I just need my bank to survive the impending shopping clusterfuck, and hope the L86a2 doesn't sell before I get my financial ducks in a row.

Thanks for all your replies, I ended up picking up a used TM G3 Full metal with a couple of upgrades. Still more work needs to be done to this rifle but its a good start.

now anyone know a retailer around that carries TM G3 low cap mags?
