if someone is looking to try these out my "local" had a sale "mis-price" $52.97 (ending today) I think they're $69 regularly

now the trick is to replace the camera with a wireless camera so it can send live images...

this thing is IR control (line of site only) and is designated "indoor"
ARDrone has real time feed from the camera (controlled by iPod touch/iPhone)
it sets up its own wireless network and has much better range

I've actually messed around with putting a camera on a helicopter, back when I worked for radio shack. It's actually not that hard but it's going to cost you around $400. We had a small wireless camera (which we powered with button cells), A ~$100 R/C helicopter and a video baby monitor.

Just for fun I Googled up some similar products which could work. (not saying it will be perfect)

This could be interesting for capture the flag games

With these two items you could have real time video with a range of ~25m. Keep in mind most of your money goes up in smoke if someone lights them up or you crash.

Pffttt...

that airhogs "toy" is pretty much useless in the outside world. In the house, yes. Outside, no.

The whole idea of playing with radio control toys while trying to play airsoft is a bunch of crap.

Either you play airsoft or you fly your model airplane, but you cant do both at the same time.

I am a hard-core model aircraft enthusiast and I can tell you, If I come out to play airsoft, I dont want to be futzing around with my model airplane or helicopter. Besides needing good skill to fly effectively, you need a good machine (read $$) and a good video downlink system (read $$$$$) for real-time observation. Then you have to fly about and interpret the downliked video, which in itself is hard to do. Who wants to mess about with this sort ofcrap when you are really out to play airsoft? Those people that have actually tried this will know- its a pipe-dream and you are wasting your time.

Pick up your gun and play airsoft. If you want to fly model airplanes, join a flying club.

I think it's completely true that right now the UAV options are either too expensive, or to toylike to roll. The development curve though seems to be very rapid. I'd say by next holiday shopping season they'll be another generation ahead in function and the prices will continue to drop.

For me I would just like a UAV that goes up say 15m and stays in one spot but would have 360 view that I could view on a say 6 inch screen. This would last for say 20min then float to the ground.
