Handmade Parts Safety Question

So after learning that paintball type masks dont quite fit properly on my face and the ability to see down scope has been far more difficult than i had initially imagined so therefore i have decided (after seeing that these were available and safe to use) to make my own mesh wire mask with ski-goggle type eye protection. Now my question is can this mesh wire be used at the skirmishes etc? I know how to do all the facial forming and other customizations, but my main concern is not wasting my time and money to have it denied. If you can suggest a type of mesh that will be accepted please feel free.

If I can pull this off I plan on making a fully customized armour set to match the face, If THAT turns out well and is accepted by the general community, youll be able to expect the ability to 'order' custom armour shortly thereafter.

Again any suggestions would be great.

In the end...no matter how good or shitty a job you do...it'll be up the the host and/or field owner to determine if you can use it.

A couple of points:
1. DO NOT use ski goggles...they look the same, sort of...but they may very well be unable to stop a BB. At the very least use ballistic mil-spec goggles...or Paintball Goggles.

2. From the jist of what others have posted...stamped (i.e. the holes are punched out of a solid sheet of metal) mesh holds up much better than woven (i.e. wires are woven into a mesh) materials.

3. Doubling up makes it more deformation resistant/durable but cuts down on air flow.

Lots of guys have done this already (well...at least the mask part). One of the local guys here has a little one he keeps on with elastic straps....kind of like a small surgical mask, but out of mesh. It works...but it sort of looks like a mini jock cup

There's a couple of threads already on here where guys have posted theirs.

Due to the risk of shattering BBs, I do not recommend mesh masks. There's been a study (on Arnies I think?) that proves the risk. It might not be enormous, but it's there.

And I won't risk that for my eyes.

Unless I wasn't clear somewhere...absolutely I would not recommend mesh eyewear protection to anyone.

Further...for protection against facial bleeders, broken teeth, scarring...not much beats a solid paintball mask. But a good solid mesh mouth mask will take the worst out of a mouth shot (i.e. broken teeth)

I hang a cut off piece of PB facemask off my T800's...doesn't cover the cheeks...just the front of the face really. It's annoying but I've taken several shots to it without issue.

If it's not underwritten by a qualified body to attest to it's safety, I wouldn't use it. Hell, if we were on the same field, I think I'd rather call it a day than take a chance shooting at you.

There are a lot of things you can McGuyver in life, but don't chance it with eye protection, seriously.

If it's just an issue of sighting a scope, there are oodles of other options. Go with a mouth piece, mesh lower mask or shemag for mouth protection.

LOL Im soo sorry for the confusion. I meant the lower half as you have all described. I intended on getting a paintball type eyewear and ... as you said MacGuyvering the mesh part to the goggle part to make a 1 solid piece mask. It was never that my eyes couldnt see down the sight. It was the cheek area of the mask that would get in the way and I wouldnt be able to hold the rifle properly against my shoulder and therefore my accuracy dropped dramatically. I planned on making the mesh part as 'form-fitting' as possible. I was simply worried about safety issues, as was mentioned shattering bb's.

So with that said and advice taken to heart,
Doubling up on the tightest weave i can find and adjusting what needs to be to fit inside of a helmet.

Thanks alot guys.

I think your trying to make a Brassguard stalker mask.
it's a very strong mesh mask that covers you from your nose to just below your chin, the Batwing model I think provides neck protection but I haven't used or seen one yet. The praetorian model cover's the entire face but like said earlier it's reccomended to wear goggles underneath
Being made in russia they are built to fit a narrow face, but the mesh can be bent with your hands and some force to fit your face, I had to do that to my stalker mask.
