Hop Up and Silicon Oil

I've been ready up on AEG maintenance on other sites (I've learned my maintenance stuff from here). And some say to put a drop in the the feed port and to fire off a few rounds. A hundred or so. From what I've read it seems that about half the people do lube this part of the gun, and other half don't.

So my question to you is, should this be done? Will a hundred rounds be enough to clear all of the oil from the hop up?

Think about it. Why oil your hopup rubber and ask if 100 rounds will clear it up? Why even do it if all your doing is shooting off several rounds to clean it off?

You don't oil your hopup rubber. It is there to add friction and spin your BB. Oils are meant to reduce friction...

Your hopup rubber will absorb it and become engorged, read, it can swell up and cause a blockage and render it useless.

Oiling it is part of occasional maintainance, it's needed to keep the breech lips lubricated so the BB can pass easily, otherwise it'll jam. I can't count how many guns I've dealt with on the field that were jammed, pop the BB out and the next would jam, drop of oil in the loading nozzle, cycle a few times, then all BBs would feed perfectly the rest of the day. Really, all you need is a wipe on the breech lips, but it's impossible to do when the gun is assembled, so a drop down is what we do.
