Cutting battery charger wires? Safe?

Hey guys.

I have a Pirahna Digital Peak Charger. It has inputs so you can plug many different types of charger ends in it. Just put the + wire in the + hole, and the - wire in the - hole.

I highly dislike using my shitty ass 250mah 8.6V charger for my ni-cd 8.4V battery.

Is it safe to cut the wires off of the crappy wall plug, and then strip the ends and plug the + and - of the wires, into the corresponding inputs in the charger?

I ask because I have a battery with a mini type connector, and I dont feel like waiting 6 hours to charge this battery. My peak charger charges it much faster.

Yup, perfectly fine. I've swapped mine before.

The wires are thin. They arent like uber thick wires on the cheap charger. Is it possible that these wires may be too small for the pirahna charger? It charges quick. Could they get too hot from current?

Also, does anyone know the correct settings for the Pirahna Digital Peak Charger?

I need to charge a 8.4V 1200mah NI-Cd. In the peak charger theres like settings for current (default at 3.0A), peak (default at 6mV/C). Are these settings fine?

It'd take alot of current to dammage those wires. I've charged batteries with paper clips before.... That wasn't the best idea but it worked :P

although a charger outputs a constant flow of current, the load is far less than that of you shooting your gun. the wires that are from the old wall wart are more than sufficient to 'charge' your battery.

I don't use NiCad's, but contrary to what others say, I charge my 1600mah 9.6v and a couple other 8.4's at 2-2.5A. the trick is to keep the battery cool. it's hot outside. my AC is often on during the day/night...

during the times of the year when the AC isn't on, I have some old PC fans rigged up to an old wall wart to power them in a "cooling box"

So what current and peak settings should I put?

1.5A to 2A and 6mV or 7mV.

Okay. Sweet thanks man.

So I presume: The square shaped hole is positive, and the circle shaped hole is negative?

What?

You didn't say you're MAKING a charger adapter, and it will only connect with your battery one way...

I'm not making one.

Once I cut the wires and connector off of the charger, I wont know which wire is + and which is -. I dont want to accidentally plug in the + into the -. I dont wanna mess up the polarity.

(Like, I have to take the wires with the connector and plug them into my peak charger. My peak charger has 2 holes. + and -. I need to know which wire is going to be + so I dont accidentally plug it into the wrong hole on the charger.)

Compare to the battery you're plugging the adapter into? That's what I meant. Not that hard to figure out.
Most batteries have red and black wires.

My cheap china charger clone (long since tossed out) I picked up a few years ago had a green and blue wire leading off it's battery adapter. If both of your leads are black (as an example) just follow common sense and look at the male/female connectors and don't switch them around.
