TM M4 dust cover issues

Here's a simple stupid one for you.

This is a bone stock TM M4 S-system with all its 280-290 fps glory.

The plastic tab that holds the dust cover in place broke and now the cover won't stay in place, now aesthetically I don't really care. I'm just worried about dust getting into the internals.

I've poked around and to get the dust cover off to replace it I would need to cut the leads from the receiver to the fore-grip battery compartment, because the connectors for the battery were put on after the D-ring was installed, to get the forward assembly off so I can slide the dust cover rod off to replace it. then reconnect it all again, I'm not against doing it...

I would just be breaking one of the cardinal rules of hobbies, Don't try to mod your car/rifle/RC/PC until you have a back up so when you F* it up you can still play.

So my question is there another way to get around replacing the dust cover when all I need is a piece of replacement tab?

Thanks for any advise and/or flames!

Ozone

I had a similiar problem with my ICS M4 way back when. What I did was I reversed that tiny little spring that wants to hold the dust cover open,so that it would now hold it closed. It took some "Fanagling" a few choice words, and a couple tim hortons coffee's but I was able to reverse that spring with out taking the rod off,,hope that helps.

If your rod holding the dust cover on is fastened with a c clip you MAY be able to get the c clip off without taking anything apart. Then you could get it all apart just enough to replace the cover without moving anything else. IF you can get the c clip off.
