MEGA V2 gearbox of death!
So my gearbox has broken for the last time!! I cannot express my anger/frustration with words. Every time it gets fixed it breaks again within a couple thousand rounds. The problem is the same everytime, shreaded gears (and do I mean shreaded). What I would like to know is how to fix it FOR GOOD (you cant imagine how hard I just pushed the keys on my keypad) What I would like is a beast, something that can handel my 9.6 volt bat, cycle the gun at a HIGH ROF, well maintaining a power of over at least 380 fps, all this well having an industructable gearbox that just cant fail me anymore!
So any ideas???? I would like to keep the budget under $200, for those of you laughing at my budget I can go higher if $200 is ridiculous for what I am asking for, but I am unsure because I have never tried to upgrade a gearbox before. |

Systema Helical torque up gears. What mechbox shell are you using?

Have you been using the same shell every time? Is there a particular gear that shreds or seems to have the most damage? It could be an alignment issue with your gearbox if it's been bent or something.

What gears are you using? (not sure if darklen was actually telling) If it's ACM stuff like 5KU, SHS, ELement, Supershooter that is probably a big factor. I never had a problem with systema helical torque. If it's helicals and they are not shimmed correctly that is likely culprit
If you are running Guarder, Systema, Prometheus Modify gears than the culprit is likely god awful shimming. And I mean really god awful. We need more information to diagnose the issue. If you have a terrible E1 or G&G gearbox shell it may not be built to the spec or warped / misshaped. Bad bearings/ improperly seated bushings can also be the issue. I ONLY use TM, Systema, G&P gearbox shells. I've heard that KWA shells are also excellent Avoid Modify Taurus unless you are using a completely modify build. Other brands shells are often not built to the correct specs most importantly the axle holes are not centered correctly (see airsoftmechanics). I had this problem with a G&G cansoft shell. Where are the gears shredding/failing? What brand is EVERYTHING inside the gearbox. Send it my way there is no reason why you shouldn't have a v2 gearbox that fits those specs. BTW what is the definition of "HIGH ROF"? Are we talking 70+ or what?

It's a gear issue why not buy a different brand, or shim them properly .

Yea.. you're using guarder gears, that's a big problem.
If you're above a 6mm bushing hole (7mm+) upgrade to high end bearings (Kanzen, Prometheus, ect) and use a set of Prometheus gears with a rating matched up to the spring that you want to use 'em with. If you've got 'em shimmed well you shouldn't have a problem. |

Are you using the same brand of gears each time there is a failure? Are you going to the same gun tech or are you doing the work yourself? Where are the gears 'shredding'
Terribly shimmed gears or bad bearings are likely the culprit. |
