How to find repair parts
I hope if I’m posting this in the wrong place someone will help me out by moving it to where it belongs. I looked over the various sections and in my mind I couldn’t see a single place where it should be posted. The subject matter is how to locate suppliers for the various repair parts needed across a wide range of manufactures.
First of all in Airsoft term we always speak of upgrade and modification and I agree these are useful and meaningful terms but rarely do we ever speak of “repair.” Yes there are a great many resellers out there that carry a great many parts but in my time searching for suppliers there are many parts that are very difficult to locate in North America. I’m in the US so I deal with companies like Airsoft G.I, Evike, Echo1, etc to name just a few but let’s say I need to purchase some Modify parts and I have the Modify part number. No company that I have found to date carries the complete line of Modify's catalog that I know of and this is just one company I could go on to name many of the manufactures that seems impossible to located their complete line of parts in North America. Presently I’m looking for the lower receiver for an ICS sig 552. ICS shows it in their online catalogue and it has a part number but when I contact any US company that sells ICS AEGs they act like I’m nuts when I ask about repair parts. Now perhaps I just haven’t searched far enough yet but I think there is a void in the supply line in general. I would like to see a good thread on this subject and hope that collectively as a community we can help establish some resources for IDing supply sources. If this subject has already been covered then please point me in the direction of a link. edit: Let’s say I wanted to order Modfiy’s GB-05-02 spring set for version2 and 3 gearbox or Guarder’s G&G’s GE-07-03 Gearbox Spring Set For Ver. II/III AEG (these parts are the same thing). What makes these special from all the other spring sets out there are these include the screws that are used internally in the gear box. Why would anyone need the screws? Perhaps you lost them or perhaps you are building some gearboxes from scratch so when someone comes in for repairs you can just do an exchange and send them on their way quickly and repair their old gearbox at you leisure. In any event in all my searching I have not found anyone selling these part numbers. Last edited by Jackarutu; October 10th, 2009 at 15:59.. |

In the US JAG precision is the sole importer of Modiy's product line and they seem willing to carry the complete line. However, I've spent many hours on the phone with Airsoft G.I trying to find out why they don't or won't carry the complete line and the last conversation got a little heated. I'm not sure what their problem is. Jag suggested I start working with Nashville Airsoft. However when I contacted them they said: "We do not have all the parts online right now because our in-store demand is so high, but are in the long process of developing a new website. We can get any Modify parts you would need. It obviously just depends on our stock at the time. We are one of the busiest tech-shops in the south and are processing around 25-30 guns a week right now so our parts stock fluctuates greatly." They were up front that they are doing 25 to 30 weapons a week and that doesn't leave them much left over to offer on their online sales catalog.

***NOTE****
Jugglez (the guy that runs Airsoftparts.ca) is on very good terms with Modify. He buys direct from them and I know that he gets quite a few orders from guys all over the US. He gets this business because he's very quick and clear on communications and is very, very well organized. *********** From your example of the gearbox spring set...there's not much that makes them different from any other quality brand spring set. The spring material is of good quality and they are shaped and tempered nicely...not much else to ask for in a spring. Adding the screws is a nice touch. They are hard to find on their own and I've stripped the heads of more than a few of those little screws while putting them into new mechbox shells (which don't always come with screws) and/or I've snapped the heads off of some. They're self tapping, but they're so tiny that they can't take much torque. For the rest of what you wrote...I don't really get what you're asking...? You're looking for a part, you contact some companies and they don't know what you're talking about...or are too busy to deal with parts (online/over the phone). So just keep calling other companies until you find it. Or post up on your local Airsoft forum in their classifieds. Try BlazingToys...they carry ICS/SRC stuff. Even if it's not in stock they might be able to order it in. Lots of companies won't list everything that they can/could-possibly get...there's just too much stuff out there. But chances are that if Redwolf, UNcompany, WGCShop have it listed...someone can order it in (or you could order it direct). Last edited by m102404; October 15th, 2009 at 14:38.. |

" I guess I'm just a poor communicator. But for example I just spend most of yesterday speaking with airsoft supplies in the US that offer ICS SIG 552s for sale. Not a single one of them has or knows where get parts for them. At present I would like to have some pistol grips and the front sight assembly (the ICs ones don't use the fake ABS plastic adjustment wheels), some of the parts that go into the rear shoulder stock and some upper and lower receivers. Perhaps I shall need to start shopping in CA in order to get the supplies I need. I still think it a good idea to have a thread to help ID suppliers of hard to find parts. Perhaps someone with better communication skills will take over and lead it. Oh and the whole idea behind the Modify spring kit was to get the screws. I really don't need any springs but I do need to stock up on those screws. I've spend hours trying to find the screws thru regular commercial suppliers and I've come to the conclusion my time would have been better spent watching SG-U. Thanks for the input ever little bit of info helps build a knowledge base.
