You can actually apply powder coating thinner than paint, or as thick as you want. And it's seamless, with no drips, overspray or "missed" spots. Powder coating is limited in colours, to about 40 million choices. I've been in a world-class facility that could powder coat 1,000 car amplifiers a day with 1 guy operating it and much more if needed. They could do any colour or thickness and would do a custom colour for you if you wanted. But this was in Portland Oregon and not much help to stokes. But it can be done and someone in the GTA is sure to do it.

Seen powder coating done on a bike show - shomething choppers and they did a bike in black that came out beautifully.

If I were to paint a gun, i would try that route if it was cost effective, if not Krylon, here I come!

Thanks MC for the reassurance... Ive sent around 6 emails to different companies in the GTA so far... Im also setting aside a day to get on the phone with some others... hope they can do it.

So far Ive been quoted by one company for $200 startup costs and another company for $250 just for the powder...

It takes only a few minutes to powder coat something and some baking time on top of that. I would expect some cost, but $450?

Lauer http://www.lauerweaponry.com/ makes Duracoat in the US. There are finishers in the US that will finish an airsoft gun for $40 to $80 USD. I have never asked about finishers in Canada, so I do not know who could do it near you. There are several types of finishes like this that are equally good, I just prefer Duracoat. Not thick like powder coating, comes in many colors, and is easy to apply (you can even get a disposable spray bottle.)

Duracoat won't chip or peel, and won't wear off. The only issue is that if you will do it yourself, you will need to strip the original finish. I blast mine with 80 grit glass beads, and then apply the duracoat with an airbrush. It is what I use on my real steel, and I don't even see holster wear. I finish my own airsoft guns with it too. I am finishing a KJW P229 to match my real one, and am about to start on a G&G xtreme 45 (making it into a Kimber CDP.) $16.00 USD will buy you 4 oz of Duracoat, which is enough for 2 to 3 pistols, or 2 M4 bodies/barrels.

Another Duracoat site with good color examples:
