Without speaking for the entire community, you'll likely find that most folks are using FRS (Family Radio System) radios, i.e. Motorolas, Cobras, Panasonics, etc. Available all over the place, from Walmart to Costco.
Headsets? Ranging from hands-free set-ups sold next to the radios, to knock-offs of real world comms gear (or, indeed, the actual real world comms gear. Lots of styles and manufacturers, but our little group is gonna get a few like this...

I figure they'll keep the bugs out of our ears in the summer, and keep our ears warm in the "spring" (such as it is here) and fall.

I have a Cavalry headset attached to a Linton radio. It's a programable handheld you can set to FRS frequencies. Works great.

Check in with the local teams first though, no point going in very deep on comms if they all just shout at each other.

please let me know if this is similar to what others are using, as well as if i will be able to select specific frequency's for MILSIMS such as OP Cold Front.

thanks again.

EDIT: i also need to know if they are able to use headsets.

yes these are going to be compatible with what most if not all teams use. just a matter of how much you want to spend. don't get sucked into the 43km of the motorola. ideal conditions to reach that range are not common.

google some reviews on those models

A lot of the guys in Calgary use the Linton 6288's as well as frs/gmrs radios. There are also a large number of UHF radio users (Motorola, yeasu, etc.).

I personally use a yeasu vx6r with a shoulder mic and and earbud.
