CA36K will not accept other mechboxes

Hey Guys,

Im having a problem with my new CA36K. I tried to swap the mechbox for a TM G36 V3. The TM mechbox when placed into the lower receiver creates a problem for putting in the retaining pin and to allign the motor so that i may tighten the large phillips screw at the bottom of the handgrip. I believe it is the mechboxes problem as when i tried the same thing with the standard CA mechbox i had no problems whatsoever, but when i tried the same thing with my friends clone G36 V3 mechbox i had the same problem. We tried both mecboxes several times to no avail, but the CA fit in perfectly. Has anyone else had this problem?

http://www.mechbox.com/g36/g36c-reassembly.html at 1:40 + a few seconds for putting in the retaining pin.

CA won't always work with TM, JG, or SRC gearboxes. I have tried all of them. Even if you get the pin to line up through grinding or force, the nozzle will misalign with the magwell feedlip and you will get misfeeding and jamming. It's not a problem, it's design. The tolerances are all different between them all from gun to gun. They are clones but that doesn't mean compatible without modification which is one of the sad truths of airsoft. Of all the G36s, CA is the most different from all the other TM clones as far as the body and body internals. KWA is the most different in the mechbox (has the best mechbox).

It is possible to get it working, but you will have to grind away at the inside of the grip, the pin holes, and maybe swap the motor mount...and maybe modify the magwell and hop-up chamber or fuse assembly as well. Also - put in the screw into the bottom of the grip first - and then force in the pin.

It depends on your gun. The fix might be as simple and making the hole where the pin goes larger, or swapping that piece that goes on the side of the mechbox where the safety mechanism goes into. That piece is designed and molded slightly different between CA, SRC, and JG/TM mechboxes.

I see thanks for the quick response. I think its kind of strange though as i put in a CA mechbox into a TM G36 a couple of months ago, maybe i was just very, very lucky.

It work the other way around since CA grip is just thicker in certain places than TM because TM is ABS plastic and has more give while CA is nylon fibre.

Yup, CA uses their own dimensions on the V3. What SNK said is right on the money.
