What makes a NOD is the tube. A "Gen 2+" NOD is meaningless without tube performance data. STN X LPM = FOM. You probably want something with at least a Photonis tube with ~20 STN to have a FOM value around the 1200-1400 ballpark, making it a high-end European Gen 2. Then you want to shop around and compare prices (e.g. from Alpha Optics, GSCI, etc)

I would try and look at getting a D300SHP or D300ST or the GSCI gs-14, all are good entry level generation 2 night vision devices that have been proven to be effective for airsoft. alot of the armasite stuff will require proprietary adaptors to work with most helmet mounting equipment, and that stuff will be ITAR and hard to get. check out this thread if you have unanswered questions

They dont anymore, double tap tactical used to import them but they have since closed down, you need to find one in the used market, the come up for sale on asc occasionly, alternativly you can get a GSCI gs-14 for about 2500$ all in (including the j-arm adaptor), from i think it was uppercanada tactical or something

FOM means nothing without having the complete datasheet.

Having a high FOM but a terrible photosensitivity which Gen 2 typically have compare to OMNI 4+, means you will have a tube with awesome resolution but cant amplify light.

FOM and Gen are really not terribly useful in a vacuum without knowing omni specs and knowing what each line on the datasheet means.

My next issue is what does FOM mean. I've had time eyes behind a friends FOM 2100 tube, and my 1900 literally can't tell the difference. Then had time behind A FOM 2400 with low photosensitivity, that tube was as bad as a FOM 900 tube belonging to another friend.

FOM was created by US as a mean to regulate Night vision under ITAR.
The two most important parameters for NVD are photosensitivity and SNR.
Id rather have a 58lp/mm with SNR of 28 than a 72lp/mm with SNR of 22 even though both are FOM 1600. higher the SNR the fewer the static within image.
Photosensitivity is where Gen 2 high performance lose to Gen 3+ in terms of making an image in really dark environment. The newest Photonis uses wider spectrum of light to produce an image while Gen 3 are more sensitive in near-IR

Keep in mind Photonis-DEP is not the only one in town that makes Gen 2 HD but this how their tubes breakdown:
INTENS> XR5 > XD4 > Supergen
From my reading, XD4 & XR5 are created from the production line. Those that are better are labelled as XR5. Depending on the sources, tubes simply labelled as 'photonis tube' are either XD4 that failed mil-spec testing or supergen. XR5 tube with same FOM as US Gen 3+ are more expensive
