Ship to the manufacture and have it installed on your radio, so you don't need to modify your real comtac. DIY package is for headset clones( comtac II clones etc ).
Do you mean the U-183/U base 5 pin (panel mount connector) will work with a 6 pin Peltor Comtac headset or do I have to choose the U-283/U base 6 pin (panel mount connector) instead?

By the way, will the manufacturer be wiling to install the base panel connector for me if I send it directly to them before they ship out my radio?

By the way, what did you mean by the best way is to purchase the U-183 base but you also mentioned 5 or 6 pins? Did you mean that if I get the 5 pin base it'll also work with my Peltor Comtac with 6 pin connector? Kindly enlighten me.

Can someone post a review of this radio when they get a change to try it out?

Since it is not certified against IC's RSS-119, I'd love to see what the emission actually looks like on one of our spectrum analyzers. Given it's origins and rather cheap sticker price, I would not be surprised to discover somewhat poor phase noise, spurious, selectivity/sensitivity (12 dB SINAD) and ACP performance, along with a 99.5% power bandwidth that will probably exceed the maximum allowable. Also, it wouldn't be a shock to find the carrier stability may not remain within +/- 2.5 ppm over the stated operating temperature and frequency ranges. A radio that's certified against RSS-119 guarantees that it will meet at least the minimum performance level for these parameters under normal operating (non-malfunction) conditions.

However, none of this will be relevant to any of you who wish to purchase the radio...it will serve it's purpose just fine as far as airsoft goes. My musings here are really just me expressing a technical curiosity...

Huang, is the blade antenna already included with the DIY package or the one with the H-250/U handset package? Checked in the Dragonred website and both packages have the blade antenna included in the pictures. Just for clarification...

If it is in the picture, then it is in. I haven't seen the radio in person yet. :-)

Thanks.

I've got to say I like the radio now that I know how to use it. The buttons aren't great, and I'm not a huge fan of the headset itself. Also, the plastic around the headset plug in on the radio prevents you from being able to screw down the headset connector and needs to be trimmed away. And the 'realistic' headset connector shown in the photos is not used on the final product. (I should mention I got the bowman package) Not a big issue unless you're very anal about everything being perfectly 110% realistic.

EDIT: Huang, will element headsets (eg Comtac replicas) plug into the DH PTT that comes with the radio?
