Players Smooth Regular to be specific.

I might have had a serious lapse in reading comprehension earlier.

The way I see it;
to the people who have been saying it should be treated as a local thing have my agreeance; no one can expect ASC to make some sort of cure-all for all this.
If a certain club has issues w/ any type of drug use that has gotten out of hand than they should assess the situation accordingly. Being a marijuana user myself I would say knowing first hand that some do not experience the effects for the most part because of prolonged use, but that does NOT give them any sort of privelage to be smoking before a game, nor anyone who can handle there liquor - maybe after the game during socializing if no one minds - but people who get ripped out of there minds should be in the same spot as those who can handle it (liquor, marijuana, etc.)

As far as I can tell - and IMO - it's like I said in the beginning, it should be dealt w/ according to individual circumstances, if anyone disagrees, they are entitled to that and I (and hopefully others) will listen w/ an open mind.

that's 'the way I see it'

P.S. sorry if I have said exactly what others have said as I did not have time to read all pages

edit- sorry, I saw this after I posted mine

this is where it's at - regardless. it should be seen as more professional in the sence that if there's not drugs aloud than there is a zero-tolerance for drug use - if you don't like it, go home!

No drugs during games. Alcohol after the game.

There seems to be some discussion of legally-prescribed or OTC drugs vs patently illegal drugs. If you are intoxicated, you are intoxicated, period. If you got stopped driving a car, you will be charged whether you are taking medication or smokked a gagger or drank some whiskey.

If you are taking legal drugs, there is no problem. The problem is that by taking illegal drugs, you not only have broken the law, but now have brought liability upon the game host. There are folks who don't even believe pot should be illegal, well, take it up with your MP. The fact is that it is illegal, same as under-aged drinking and smoking. Personal opinions are bullshit here.

Why excactly is this even a discussion?

ASC decided to institute and 18+ policy for guns, when in fact it had no basis in law in Canada except for Ontario. This was a community decision, and ASC has in the past gone out of it's way to enforce that.

The community needs to decide if this is acceptable, and let's see where it goes.

Brian is right though too, who wants to be the "ASC Dope Cop"? Kurgan should call the police on those who are smoking dope, and making it known that they do.

What you have to realize is that these people are no longer part of our local organization, nor are they allowed to participate in our games due to their past use of drugs at our events. And to be fair, nor do they want to participate any longer. The concerns we have were raised because they have formed their own organization in which smoking pot before and during games is allowed (and I would argue encouraged in some cases). We want to AVOID an occurance where police, airsoft, and drugs come into contact, not create one, so calling the cops is not really an option. So we want to explore other options, to let them know that the community at large rejects this behaviour, and make a strong statement supporting that fact.

As a side note, "legal" perscribed or over the counter drugs are not okay for use in all situations. MANY of these things, like cough syrup, state not to use heavy machinery while taking them. I would argue the safety concerns with airsoft guns are similar. I dont care what you're hopped up on at a game. If you're in so much pain you cant function without those meds, stay home till you're better.

My opinion, as stated by many others.

If you want to get high stay home and get high. *privately* After a game when you get home, go nuts. When i was younger I had many fun filled days smoking dope. So i am not aginst people getting high with whatever they want, but from a safety point, I wouldn't want a cab driver to give me a ride after he just left a bar. Bad comparison???

WTF

so how is it that most people who take the time to reply totally miss the point?

Did they not bother to read the first post?

NO one is debating the point that smoking dope at an airsoft game is ok or not. Its not.. this is not the debate.

the debate is.. Should this forum ASC take action against people who do choose to partake of illicit drugs at games, in the form of censure.. such as banning those people or revoking age verification?

If so why .. if not why not..

ok.. so let me try this again..

If someone is at an airsoft event and they are under the influence of any "mind altering" narcotic then it is my opinion that they should not be playing that day.

If said person decides that they can play "under the influence" therefore affecting the safety of other players, then "yes" I wold love there to be an entity out there such as ASC that could enforce a zero tolerance rule, however realisticly, I understand why they can't and more than likely will not. So it will inevitably be the responsibility and at the discretion of the host/field owner.

IMO

Brian I am constantly amazed by how many people read only the first post then jump for the "Post Reply" button.

I agree with you that ASC is not a "policing authority" by any means. It's up to the individual fields/player's associations/groups to police themselves.

On the lighter side of things, really this whole issue is only because of a small fraction of really really motivated stoners. Think about it, to play airsoft you gotta pack a vehicle, drive to the field, load all your gear and mags, trudge around in the bush.... Alot of effort just to toke it up in the bush...OR!!!

Do what most stoners do and stay at home on the couch playing PS3 and eating cheetos...

Indeed... a case of legislating for the exception.

frankly I don't see this issue as much of a problem.. certainly not worth turning ASC into the ministry for proper behavior.
