Actually, the purchase and sale of full black airsoft guns is also illegal Foxx.
Wouldnt be surprised if he just slapped the Clearsoft lower onto a normal TM. I highly doubt TM would go through the trouble to make clear lowers. Ive dealt with TM and Systema for over 2 years. They made it expressedly clear that They have no interest in making modifications to their existant product lines to get past Importation Laws. This is also why getting OEM Parts is a huge pain in the ass, they dont like selling parts, which is why I no longer sell em.

If all the speculation regarding reassembly with clear lowers is true, then that would be a costly undertaking which would explain the price.
Also most of the ppl complaining about the price wouldn't buy a cansoft gun anyway so there really isn't any argument, just be happy that you know how and where to get the evil stuff and smile to yourself when you see someone with one of these on the field.

People used to pay a similar price for the ICS sportline distributed in Canada although the M4A1 carbine was significantly less expensive. The ICS CQB used to sell for 471$ and it would sell frequently mostly because of the name ICS even though the Canadian version pastica sportline price is more than their pro line overseas.
I'm very interested in seeing how far this project goes and the value Canadians attach to a TM. |

That chart is rather ill-informed.
Airsoft IS "Canadian Legal" (i.e., you may own and use one, no one is coming to your house unless you do something stupid with it), but the import and transfer isn't legal, although currently only imports and commercial transfers (open sales in stores) are being restricted. Considering Frank already has Velocity Arms -branded lowers (presumably some might be TM compatible, like ICS) it's not unimaginable that he just got a bunch of TM guns sans lowers and used his own.

A better example of TM quality would be the M14 series. I think pretty much anyone who knows and has used M14s from various companies will come out unanimously on that. But with cheap all-metal guns and some of those companies putting out really solid clones (the various ACM AKs, etc) and the fact that internals are easily available, TM seems to be losing a bit of prestige.

The fact that there is only one in stock at VA leads me to believe that this is more of a compatible receiver swap on a single TM AEG rather than actual TM manufactured Cansoft.

To me, the #1 selling point of TM AEGs is that they're 99.9% reliable out of the box and will run for years without needing any work. This is due to their tight tolerances and perfect shim jobs. And as long as the mechbox isn't opend and upgraded, they stay that way. They were designed for long-term performance and reliability at their 280-310 fps velocities required by Japanese law, and nothing more.
But realistically speaking, how many people actually keep their TM stock? Not many. Some people do, but most don't. One of the first things people do is install a stronger spring - which requires metal bushings, and a reshim. If you want to go over 350 fps, new gears are also highly recommended. Over 375 fps, then their V2 shells run the same risk of cracking as a cheap brand and a reinforced mechbox is required. As soon as you've done any of that, then you've altered the "perfect" TM formula and you can throw that TM reliability argument out the window, as it's now on the same level as any other upgaded AEG, be it a top of the line G&P or entry-level JG. It makes the "get a plastic TM for more money than a high end metal gun" argument moot. I do believe this is the case as well. Sort of a 'testing the waters' to see what kind of reaction it gets.

I think that this is a market test and seeing the reaction on these boards he will push to make other models as well. For this reason, there hasn't been any public announcements as he probably isn't 100% sure of his move.

Take a look at this thread. That's a pretty good way to gauge interest in the product.

Seems more like a "look what I found thread" by an ASC member as opposed to a thread initiated by VA and TM testing the market. Having said that it's mostly just the same members that frequently post their POV's. I mean if you own a Real Sword, Systema PTW or a G & P AEG etc I doubt you'd buy a Cansoft TM AEG. I'd like to have a TM Aeg just to say I have one. But I doubt I'd buy a clear one. Last edited by shiftsup; January 14th, 2010 at 15:07.. |

Frank at Velocity has a lot on his plate right now I think he may have just been a little to busy to post, or perhaps he was just going to let word of mouth spread on its own.
