With this type of valve Air and Co2 are interchangeable.
No need for an expensive regulator.

if you choose HPA you can set up with a scuba fill station for under $150 and that would give you (guess 7000 + rds) fill cost $7

a 12 oz tank with a $4 fill would give you 3000 to 4000 rds..

if you were starting from scratch ( which most are not ) Air is cheaper and easier the batteries I think.

If you play at a field Air ii Free and is usually located for self serve in the middle of the field.

the Tippmann 98 vale runs on all AIr types.... and at pressures 300 psi to 3000 psi so Air / Co2 and Nitrogen.. it would run on propane as well if you could get it there..

you can run HPA in your stock, its pretty common.. alot of milsim paintball markers have that option.. 300 - 350 rounds

or you run 12 grams in the 80 round mags.. this wont be for everyone for sure.. but for those in cold climates or that like the blow back action it is a really good option..

Air system: HPA has to be regulated. Standard HPA valving is between 650 and 950 psi.. no problem for any standard hpa paintball tank. CO2 by nature is unregulated at the tank and regulated by the internal valving.
If you're looking for an hpa tank to work with a remote line setup, ANY paintball hpa tank will be just fine. Personally, i'm a big fan of the Ninja tanks as currently their valves have the most consistent output pressure.
NOTE: if purchasing an hpa tank for use in Canada, MAKE SURE it has the appropriate TC stamp on it. No TC stamp, no go. There is also a CE stamp that will be accepted as of Sept this year, but look for the TC to be safe.
12g magazines. The 12g is fit into the mag using an hourglass pressure fit. I tested mags upside down in rigs and did not lose a cartridge once.

I was honestly hoping for real cap mags and a bitchin' blow back system (co2 GBBr?) when I saw this.

Can the hopup unit accommodate things like enhanced buckings, tightbores and modify flat hops?

They said the hop-up is proprietary, don't know about buckings, but it takes AEG cut barrels.

with Tippmann making a serious Airsoft gun, companies like Tect and lapco will not be far behind in doing Up Grades,,

Forget this Gun , That's whats really exciting about this development lol

Up'd vales upgrades and bolt and trigger mods are already in production for a lot of the 98 parts used in this gun.
companies like this would be a very positive thing for Airsoft as a whole.. these companies rock at building in shop cnc machined upgrade parts

Tippmann USA is a small fish recently bought by GI Sportz Canada.

The big company to watch for is Empire which bought out multiple companies which can put a bigger dent.

SuperHog, I hate to break it to you, but Tippmann is one of the largest paintball companies worldwide, and has been for years. The merger between GI Sportz and Tippmann corrected the 2 areas that Tippmann was lacking in; paintballs themselves, and broad range soft goods.
Tippmann's 98 Custom continues to be the #1 selling paintball marker worldwide.
Kee (Empire), while huge in the number of companies it has in it's stable (Empire, BT, Halo, JT, RPS, Extreme Rage, Pure Energy), has had its own share of problems over the years. Kee has also stated they have no desire to enter the airsoft world.

Cheap? I'll put Tippmann's gun up against any AEG out there for durability and reliability. They build things to last and be reliable. There are original Tippmann 98's still being used as field rental markers... making them 16 years old and still going strong.
